A fun, hands-on full-day workshop open for everyone with no or little programming experience to learn the basics of JavaScript. After learning the very basics you will draw an animate things on the screen and eventually proceed to creating a slideshow using also HTML and CSS.

What you will learn: After the workshop you will know some basic programming techniques that are useful in other languages than JavaScript, too, and you will have an understanding how to develop for the browser and make things interactive.

What is happening: As in all OpenTechSchool (http://www.opentechschool.org) workshops you should be able to work through our tutorial material on your own while there will be many friendly coaches around (like 1 coach for four learners) that are happy to help any time. We speak German and English and probably more :)

Already know some JavaScript? Please be a coach! Sign up here. (http://discourse.opentechschool.org/t/javascript-for-beginners-workshop-jsfest-berlin/875/19)

Material: You can check out the material here:

• German: Basics (http://opentechschool.github.io/js-beginners-4h-workshop-1/index_de.html), Slide Show (http://opentechschool.github.io/js-beginners-day2/index_de.html)

• English: Basics (http://opentechschool.github.io/js-beginners-4h-workshop-1/), Slide show (http://opentechschool.github.io/js-beginners-day2/)

What you need: Motivation to learn programming and a laptop (let us know if you can't bring one). Ideally you already have a browser like Chrome (http://www.google.de/intl/de/chrome/browser/) installed and a decent text editor like Sublime Text (https://www.sublimetext.com).

Costs: The workshop is free of charge. We do this for fun and because we think more people should get into programming. You will have the chance to donate to OpenTechSchool e.V. during the event.

Food/drinks: There are places to eat, but it'd would be awesome if we also had a little buffet, and everyone who can contribute brought some of their favorite snacks to share. Feel free to bring anything you like: fruits, veggies, salad, bread, cookies, nuts, etc.

If you have registered but can't make it to the workshop for any reason, please click that you are not coming so your spot can go to someone else! Also, if the list is already full, sign up for the waiting list. Depending on the amount of coaches, we might gonna raise the participants we can take later...

This event is part of jsfest.berlin, a week full of events around JavaScript and the browser. If you're interested in server-side JavaScript you should also check out the NodeSchool workshop (https://ti.to/nodeschool-berlin/jsfest-2014) the very next day.
