  • Learning Meetup - HTML/CSS/JS
Hi everyone, Our next meetup will be an opportunity for you to work on your own CSS/JS/HTML projects and get the help you need from our coaches. Bring whatever you're working on, or work through the learning material as before. So we can build on the beginner workshops we've already run, we're going to focus on HTML, CSS and javascript for now. If you'd like to help us coach on any of the above, that's ace, thank you(!) - please don't RSVP, just mail us ([masked]) at [masked] As before, please bring your own laptop. See you there! <3 Vikki

  • Hackership n Tell (lightning talks!)
Hackership n Tell comes from Berlin to London! Are you building something awesome right now that you want to share? In the spirit of Hack n’Tell Berlin, we will have an open forum night for short presentations of cool hacks and projects. This is a joint event run by OpenTechSchool London and Hackership (http://www.hackership.org). (Hackership is a learning retreat for developers that has its roots in OpenTechSchool Berlin) During Hackership there are workshops, presentations and weekly demos very similar to this nights format. So come and learn something new and cool Hackership-style. Or even better, present something yourself. We'll give you 5 minutes to show off your tool, hack, library (did you just write a library to access the Meetup API in Go!?), whatever. We're language and software/hardware agnostic, so it's all fair game. After you present, it's an open forum. The audience will ask questions and provide feedback. There is no limit to the kind of hacks that can be presented. Demo cool stuff, no matter if it's a mobile app, website, desktop program or library. Anything is allowed, just cross the line to awesomeness - and if it fails it should do it beautifully. Here’s how it works: • You'll get 5 minutes to present in English • You or your team should have built it yourself • People can ask you questions afterwards • NO PURE SLIDEDECKS, no pitches, only demos + code • Show us code!!! (reasonable exemptions may be possible) • Entertain us! • You only show us projects you developed. Nothing you've downloaded from somewhere. We hope you can make it and demo something you are working on. As ever, the focus is on sharing and learning, so don’t be shy! And, if you are interested in attending Hackership in Berlin this Summer or Costa Rica this September, it will also be your chance to speak to one of the volunteers there and learn more. Optional: There will be limited presentation slots. If you think you would like to demo, please send a message via Meetup so we have an idea of numbers.

[NOTE : If you attending this meetup, please take the time to also register via our host venue's website, to expedite check-in on the day. Here's the sign up link --> https://www.skillsmatter.com/meetups/6713-learning-meetup ] Hi Everyone, We're really excited to announce that we'll be running some continuous learning meetups for the last events of 2014 (that went fast!). We'll run more regular meets where you can work on your own projects and get help from our awesome coaches when you need it. Don't worry if you haven't got a project in mind just yet, there are still lots of tutorials that you can work through, or you can chat through your ideas with a coach, who can help you get started. So we can build on the beginner workshops we've already run, we're going to focus on python, HTML & CSS, and javascript for now. If you'd like to help us coach on any of the above, that's ace, thank you(!) - please don't RSVP, just mail us ([masked]) at [masked] As before, please bring your own laptop :) See you in November! <3 Gen & Vikki

  • SEPT 11: Intro to web programming (using Javascript) - Part 3
Our next workshop will be a continuation (Part 3) of basic introduction to web programming, where we will introduce you to writing interactive websites using JavaScript. What is Part 3 and who should attend? --> Part 3 has been scheduled to give attendees, from Part 1 (Aug 19) and Part 2 (Aug 26), who did not finish going through the materials, a chance to finish the course with the benefit of coaching. --> If you missed both classes, please wait for the next batch of classes to be announced and book a place in those classes. --> If you did attend Part 1 and/or Part 2 and you have not been added yet by now to this meetup, contact us. You will need to bring a laptop, to work on the exercises. SPECIAL NOTE ON LEARNERS' RSVP FOR THIS MEETUP on Thursday, September 11 - We will manually manage the list of attendees to only allow those who were present during the last 2 classes to attend Part 3 (we've got the list of names from the last 2 classes). NOTE TO NEW VOLUNTEER COACHES If you would like to coach, that's awesome, thank you! No need to RSVP here, but please instead email us at [masked] (that's so we can make sure we have enough coaches for people who are learning). EXISTING VOLUNTEER COACHES If you have coached before, please note we will be contacting you via the usual email/Doodle process to determine your availabily. Looking forward to seeing you! Hey everyone, Our next workshop will be a basic introduction to web programming, where we will introduce you to writing interactive websites using javascript. You don't need any experience, just a willingness to learn and a laptop :) This is the second part of the workshop, but if you couldn't make the first event, don't worry, we will help you catch up :) Please RSVP only if you're coming along as a learner. If you would like to coach, that's awesome, thank you! But please instead email us at [masked] (that's so we can make sure we have enough coaches for people who are learning). You will need to bring a laptop, to work on the exercises; we will help you get set up with everything else on the day. Looking forward to seeing you!
