Welcome to ORLCAPEX NYC's October 2016 meetup! Here's a look at the agenda...

Shakeeb Rahman - APEX 5.1 Universal Theme reloaded: APEX 5.1 will ship with an updated Universal Theme, offering a refined look, new theme styles and more template options. To take advantage of these enhancements, you’ll have the refresh your theme once you’ve upgraded to APEX 5.1. We’ll show you how to do that and how to take advantage of the new Live Template Options to instantly explore all the new options at runtime. We’ll also look at the new theme customization options and APIs, which will allow your end users to pick their own preferred theme style while using your apps.

Kyle Hu - Small Features in 5.1: As a recent addition to the APEX dev team, I've had the chance to work on some pretty cool enhancements to APEX 5.1. I’ll give you a run down on some of my favorites in 10 minutes or less, including:

• Modal and Inline Dialog auto-size and “stretch to fit window”

• Property Editor enhancements in Page Designer (property search and is-changed indicator)

• The new SINCE_SHORT date format mask

• Button Builder in Universal Theme Sample App

Monica Godoy - No Excuses for Insecure Apps: URL Tampering? SQL Injection? Have you ever thought about how secure your app is? Before publishing your app, evaluate it first with APEX-SERT, an open source project that evaluates your APEX applications for security vulnerabilities. In this session, we are going to see how fast you can install APEX-SERT, how to perform an evaluation of an APEX app, and finally how to fix it or create an exception of a vulnerability.

Dan McGhan - Learning from Packaged Applications: The Packaged Applications that ship with APEX can be an excellent resource for learning. Application Search, Change Tracking, Flex Fields - those are just a few of the features that can be reverse engineered and added to your own applications. In this session, attendees will get an overview of the Packaged Applications that covers some of the features and design decisions that go into making them.

Also, we'll be giving away a free copy of the recently released book: Expert Oracle Application Express, 2nd Edition. Just show us something cool you've done with APEX. If you're the only one to show a demo, you win!

We hope to see you there!
