The Santa Ana Zoo is holding elephant rides on Saturdays and Sundays, and you’re invited to come protest!
Elephants forced to give rides are trained through domination, fear, and punishment with the use of sharp metal bullhooks and electric prods. A bullhook is a tool that resembles a fireplace poker. It's a long, heavy rod with a steel point and hook at one end that trainers use to strike the animals and jab into the most sensitive parts of an elephant's body. Bullhooks hurt elephants, often causing puncture wounds and abscesses.
Despite the terrible way elephants are treated, the Santa Ana Zoo still plans to force these animals to give rides weekend after weekend. We have signs and leaflets, we just need your presence to help advocate for the elephants!
Please come out and join us from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to make your voice heard.
