question about drawing building footprints

Hello NYCOSMers!

I'm starting to add building footprints for my neighborhood in Brooklyn, and until the city's own footprint data is licensed more favorably (soon, I hear), I'm going to add them manually from the aerial image. 

Has anyone come across a good tutorial about drawing buildings? 

I see there are some tools in JOSM that will be useful (e.g., but I'd rather use the ID map editor. Before I dive in, any tips?
