What we’re about
Otto would like to invite those who love to backpack or would like to experience backpacking for the first time to join him as he and Richard venture into the wilds of Henry W. Coe State Park (and maybe other venues) Richard and I do not take easy trips into Coe. Our trips are Gut Busters because we: encounter steep trails that traverse the ridges and canyons of Coe's beautiful landscape; will have to go through the roller coaster ride that is Coe as we approach our destinations; will have to lug our backs up steep trails; will have to constantly check for ticks; travel along trails that at times are treacherous, steep, strewn with rocks and loose dirt; encounter cold, wet weather which can be scary and uncomfortable; encounter numb fingers and limbs due to the cold or sweaty bodies due exertion; choose to sleep on the cold, hard ground, which may be infested by creepy crawlers (I use a mat and mostly ants and mosquitoes, lol); choose to awake very early so that we can see as much as possible.
If you think you are able to complete gut busting trips, then you will be in for very big surprises. Coe state park is full of natural wonders, landscapes, vistas, critters and wildflowers. So get into shape, strap on your hiking shoes, get snug in your backpack and join Richard and I as we explore in depth the sublime wonders of Coe State Park.
Membership Requirements:
1) Must post a recent, real, full body picture of yourself; No exceptions.
2) Must pass a fitness test by hiking with me on a trail in Coe. No exceptions.
3) Must have all necessary backpacking gear.
4) Must participate in a trip every 3 months or you will be dropped.
5) Must be willing to participate in Alpine starts; No exceptions.
6) Must be able to press on under challenging circumstances and when wildly uncomfortable. Richard and I take trips during which we are wildly uncomfortable: get very cold, suffer with numb fingers, attacked by mosquitoes and other insects, get very hot, sweat up a storm, encounter rain day and night, experience fatigue, thirst, travel on very rough trails, wanna give up, experience aches and pains, sore feet, wet feet, wet clothes, and on and on.
7) Must have no abnormal physical limitations. I have physical limitations by my very age; however, I am still able to do amazing things.
Richard and I are bat-shit crazy and take on some arduous journeys. These journeys, at times, are risky. So, we only want to spend time with determined and in-shape backpackers.
