I have also made arrangements for a wine tasting tour on Thursday. Those who expressed interest included: Therese, Pat, Jean, Lee Anne, Kathy, Janet Z and myself. They can take a total of 8 people at one time and the cost is dependent on the number of people and the wine tasting at 3 different wineries is a total of 45E, (15E at each place). If anyone is interested in that let me know, as we are going to meet with the wine tour people on Sunday night. Time TBD.

    August 14, 2014

    • Dennis

Sheila, you may have checked something you are interested in but you are not scheduled or obligated.

      August 14, 2014

  • Sue

Based on info I got last night from Therese and Kathy V's comment below, all the tee times are taken for Tuesday at around 2:30pm. Was there anyone else who wanted to golf? According to Therese, Dennis has down himself, John O, Pat H, Joanne, in the first tee time' and Therese, Lee Anne and myself in the second and I just added Kathy V to that group. Any other takers?

    August 14, 2014

  • Sue

Kathy V, were you planning on golfing? Patty P were you also planning on golfing?

Also, if you are bringing cash to convert you may want to be sure that the bills are free of large rips/tears/holes, etc. Most banks in former Soviet countries are picky on what they take. At least that's the way it was in Bulgaria. May not be true in Slovenia, but why take the chance.

    August 14, 2014

    • Kathy V

I was planning on doing 9 holes. Have packed some golf balls, tees, and a glove.

      August 14, 2014

    • Sue

I thought that's what you were planning. Apparently there was one spot left for golfing on Tuesday as part of the arrangements that Dennis had made, so I wanted to be sure that you got in on that. I just found this info out late last night.

Cricket and myself are now in Zagreb. We flew separately and all the connections worked. It helps that the airport in zagreb is the size of the airport in Rochester, mn
The car they reserved for us so we could drive to Plitivice lakes national park got in a accident. We could of gotten a car by 8pm. That would of entailed driving two hours on rural croatian roads at night. Decided to stay the night in town and check out zagreb. Looking forward to seeing everyone saturday night.
    hope everyone has good flights.

I only need to charge my phone, cameras, and tablet. My "hair styling" is wash, go, dry, done :)

    August 14, 2014

    • Sue

Deb, double check that your phone didn't come with special adapters. Mine did, so I'm covered with that piece of equip, which is all I may bring.

      August 14, 2014

  • Sue

I will bring both of the converters that I have. If using a curling iron that will be needed. I didn't use that once and fried the heck out of my hair, cause it was too hot.

    August 13, 2014

  • Sue

For those who need them I have a couple of extra outlet adapters for your devices. If your device doesn't have a converter inside of it let me know and I can bring the converter I have two of them. If no one lets me know about the converter need I'll leave them at home and just bring the adapters.

    August 12, 2014

    • Sue

Deb your charge cord will tell you. Most phones, tablets & computers automatically convert. It's things like hairdryers, curling irons that you need a converter for.

      August 12, 2014

    • Sue

Joey & Janet, Lee Anne & I are bringing all the adapters we have that we believe will work. We each have many duplicates. My phone came with an adapter which can be changed out for different countries.

      August 12, 2014

  • John

Otherwise your phone will download all email when you get to europe and will cost you hundreds of dollars added to your phone bill.

    August 12, 2014

    • Deb J

I thought I would leave my phone home and bring my little pocket camera as well as my reg. size camera.

      August 12, 2014

FYI from my bank about getting cash from ATMs in Europe... some of the ATMs will only accept cards with the chip which is common in Europe but not here. He said that ATMs attached to a bank will be OK which is what we should find normally but you may want a little cash in your pocket just in case & not totally rely on ATMs

    August 11, 2014

    • Sue

Thank Lee Anne! I'll increase the cash I take as a just in caser.

Sue, thank you for the kind offer of putting hiking poles in your sutcase but I don't have any. I only started my independent, adventurous life a little over a year ago:) so still working on buying the gear for it;)

Sue, exciting research. May be tempted to take some of that in. But I am returning to Slovenia in a couple years to reside there for a year. Plenty of time to do that then. I am pleased that your sharing your research and will be making the best of your time there.

    • Sue

Janet, how about coming wine tasting one day?

      1 · August 7, 2014

  • Sue

Here is a portion of an email I received re: an inquiry into a wine tour: 1-day ‘Slovenia Wine & Gourmet’ private tours explore the best wine regions in Slovenia. wine tour includes the wine regions of the Vipava Valley and Goriška Brda - the ‘Tuscany of Slovenia’.
We charge a fixed daily rate of[masked] E for a luxury 8-seater minivan with an experienced English speaking driver guide, excluding the charges for each wine cellar visit. The typical price per person for each wine cellar tour with wine tasting is 15.00 euros and we would normally include two or three different wineries in one of our custom made tours. A 2 course lunch with wine at a traditional restaurant is likely to cost between 15.00 and 20.00 euros per person.
    8 persons = 30.00 euros per person
    6 persons = 40.00 euros per person
    4 persons = 60.00 euros per person
2 persons =[masked] euros per person

    August 7, 2014

    • Sue

Our wineries have been ‘cherry picked’ for the quality of their wines & the great hospitality shown to their visitors. Where possible tours are co-hosted by the owners of the vineyard and our specialist guides. You will also enjoy tantalizing your taste buds with some of the most delicious local & seasonal food at an ‘off the beaten track’ rustic inn. I couldn't get all of the email info in one posting so had to break it down. I would love to do this and if we get more than 4 people our costs can really go down.

      August 7, 2014

  • Deb J

Thank you so much for the update on tonight's discussion. I bike for 2-4 hours at a time on bike trails here, but haven't gone with others. So my ability just depends on fast and how far, I bike at recreational speed;)

    August 6, 2014

    • Sue

Deb, we also talked about hiking poles and I have a large suitcase that will fit a bunch of hiking poles in their own section of the suitcase. We talked about electrical adapters to bring, as it looks like Italy uses one type and Slovenia uses another, but there may be one and only one that will work for both.

They always call it Holiday in Europe.

    August 7, 2014

  • Dennis

Deb, I wouldn't worry too much. Were on holiday this time and we will take all day to accomplish the distance that would normally take 2-4 hours. The planned trips involve a lot of stopping and sightseeing.

Deb we requested ebikes for 3 of us. We also discussed doing the Emerald River Adventure on Monday which includes hiking, rafting, swimming, a train ride & waterfalls in the national park, but which doesn't include canyoning. We discussed wine country tour that can be customized on the day of our choice or on Tuesday or Thursday. Emails were sent to outfitters/tours companies asking for more in depth info. I think that covers most of what we discussed.

I can't be there but be sure to look up funrafting.com, click on price list and examine it. You'll notice that bike rentals are 12 euros but Helia's bikes at 15 are a lot nicer as they specialize in cycling. Representatives from funrafting and Helia will be at our reception in Bled.
Deb, there is a large parking lot at Poor Richards and right off the freeway.

Kathy V & I are getting together on Wednesday to go over our excursion options. We plan on bringing computers/laptops so we can look at the actual choices. We don't have the exact place in mind, but know it'll be around 5:30pm somewhere in the Bloomington, Edina, Eden Prairie area. If anyone is interested in joining us please just show up....of course that's after we come up with a place.

Called delta group sales this morning. If you are trying to get a seat assignment on the departure. Delta said that since it is a air france flight. There is nothing Delta can do.
