  • This walk traverses the South Downs Way as we make our way from Hassocks to Lewes. We will climb up to the ridge passing the working Clayton Windmill on the way.

Once we get up to the South Downs Way, weather permitting we will enjoy spectacular views across the rolling South Downs as we wind our way to historic Lewes where our walk ends. In total we will walk approximately 11 miles.

There are not too many hills, but anyway, we will walk at a moderate speed as we will need to walk sufficiently fast to finish the walk in daylight hours.

We will meet at 8.30 at Victoria outside Cafe Ritazza opposite platform 13 (there are two – we will meet at the one nearest the ticket office), and we will catch the 9.20 train to Lewes. It is important to get there on time so that we can buy group tickets which are considerably cheaper - if you don't arrive on time there is no guarantee you can get the group saver ticket. We will purchase return tickets to Lewes. The cost of trains should be approximately £20 per person with the group saver.

Please bring lunch with you. Also please wear clothing appropriate for walking, such as waterproofs and proper footwear. Do not forget warm gloves and a hat. It is winter so we can expect mud, rain, wind or all three.

A note about the Outdoor Adventure Club:

The OAC is a 'not for profit' organisation under the supervision of the government appointed CIC Regulator. It is run entirely for the benefit for its members and organisers receive no financial gain for the time and skills they volunteer.

A contribution of £5 is requested for this walk because currently we need to raise money so we can develop a fund to pay for training and provide basic equipment for a leadership team. This team will need first aid skills and proper navigation training which is quite costly. On top of this we need to pay for insurance and accountancy fees. It all adds up and your contribution is greatly appreciated. However if you are unemployed or facing financial hardship please let us know and we are happy for you to join the walk without making any financial contribution.
