Carnegie Hill: Gilded Age Elegance — Part 1

Details
Sunday, July 6, 2025
11 am – 2 pm
Manhattan
How to Find Us: Meet in front of Neue Galerie, southwest corner Fifth Ave and E 86th St. It’s a short walk from the E 86 St/Lexington Ave station for the 4, 5 and 6 trains. Toilets are available in the galerie’s lower level and do not require paid admission for their use. The walk ends at Park Ave and E 93 St, near the 96 St/Lexington Ave station for the 6 train.
Limited to 25 walkers. $5 for non-members of the Outdoors Club.
NOTE: The beautiful Carnegie Hill neighborhood, which runs between Park and Fifth avenues from E 86 to E 98 streets is so rich in architectural styles and historic associations that its full dimensions cannot be comfortably traversed in one outing. So this first of two parts covers the southern end of this Gilded Age area. We will view several mansions, private schools, museums, row houses of various designs, and a few churches and synagogues. The walk covers only about two miles, but it will take close to three hours to savor all its sights. That will include a half-hour lunch break (bring your own) in Central Park near E 90 St.
