Fly to Dalaman airport where we meet with our tour guide and driver. Transfer to Pattara (2.5 hrs). Check into the accommodation in Pattera. Welcome drink briefing and overnight stay in a beautiful local Pansion, we'll have a wonderful dinner served in the lovely open air restaurant grounds.
Day 2: VISIT Ancient Theatre and Ruins and HIKE (14km, 4.5hrs; +350m/-250m)
After a 20 min transfer we will explore the first of a series of fascinating Lycian sites. This ancient city, founded on a river has breathtaking views and the ancient remains of a theatre, houses and tombs. We'll hear some great heroic stories from antiquity brought to life by our amazingly knowledgable and energetic guide and then drive on to our jumping off point just east of these ruins to start our days hiking on the awe inspiring Lycian Way. We follow time worn paths along forested hills and past gardens full of olives and grapes for 14km to our finish point for the day. From there it is a short transfer to our accommodation.
Day 3: HIKE from main road – to accommodation via ancient Aqueduct – (12km, 4hrs; +200m/-350m)
On day three we drive to the main road to again pick up the Lycian Way hiking trail. The path in follows an amazing section of a large and well preserved roman aqueduct! The ancient waterpipes supplied water from high up in the mountains to the ancient town which pre dated the local central settlement on the coast. We continue on to visit the site where the aqueduct spans a huge ravine, and then we walk to the site of the ancient settlement, again following parts of the course of the ancient waterpipes.
Later that day we explore the ancient central town of the region, now a large registered archealogical site we will explore the ruins of the ancient city that was the seat of the Lycian Federation and an important harbour city. You can see the birthplace of Father Christmas (yes St. Nicholas was Turkish!) this site was also visited by St Paul, there is a stunning white sand beach which we will have time to enjoy and take a swim, then on for an evenings dinner, socialising and overnight at the our beautiful Pansion, again with a lovely garden and outside restaurant.
Day 4: HIKE (16km, 6hrs; +600m/-400m)
We drive (45 mins) up in the mountains to start our hiking once more on the the Lycian Way path. We follow old trails along forested slopes for an hours steady climb to an ancient acropolis. After exploring the ruins we descend through the amazing landscape along an old path and dirt road to the forestry station where our transfer vehicle picks us up for the transfer down to the scenic town of Kaş, where we have dinner at our hotel.
Day 5: HIKE (10km, 4hrs; +150m/-500m)
On day 5 we travel to the beautiful village of Kiliçli (35 mins.) Here we ascend to another ancient acropolis to explore the ruins amongst this amazing natural landscape. Afterwards we descend over mule paths to a seaside hamlet. After a swimming break and a short coastal walk we will be collected by boat! We will then take an amazing cruise over the sunken city submerged in the blue lagoon of Kekova.
We'll take anchor at the coastal village of Üçağız where we meet our transfer vehicle for the drive back to Kaş. Here we have an evening dinner in local restaurant in town. Overnight in our hotel in Kas.
Day 6 will be a free day for to choose and arrange your own activity (our local contacts can set us up, or we can book at the hotel), we can chill in the lovely central plaza opposite the harbour, spend a day sunning ourselves and swimming from the rocks, pop over to Mais, the most northern Greek Island a short hop from Kas, or if you're feeling adventurous, go paragliding!!! We can take dinner in any of the many local restaurants in town. Overnight in our hotel in Kas.
On day seven we'll take our final boat trip of the week, our captain knows the very best spot, a beautiful sandy bay full of loggerhead turtles, it is an absolute jewel and the perfect finish to the trip. You can snorkel or if you are qualified scuba dive. Then it'll be time for one last great dinner at our hotel and last night drinks. Overnight in our hotel in Kas.
Day 8: DEPARTURE we will have free time to explore anything we've missed in the beautiful village of Kaş before our transfer leaves for the airport at 15.00.
Transfer from Kaş to Dalaman (2.5 hrs).
Things to bring:
I strongly recommend you buy a 2 litre hydration reservoir (brand name camel back) for this trip. Otherwise water bottles with at least 2 litre capacity. These are available cheap on e bay and amazon.
Suitable light layers, with lightweight rainproof jacket (although you almost certainly won't wear it) + warmer layer for night time, the day time temperature is likely to be around 26-28 degrees but can be cooler at night.
A very light weight long sleeve top, and lightweight full length trousers in case you get sun burn
You MUST wear proper walking shoes/boots/sandals for this trip and make very sure that they are already worn in! otherwise you could get painful blisters. This is really important, even old walking boots can give you blisters.
We recommend you have worn whatever you plan to wear on the trip for at least 7 days in the six weeks prior to the trip, and get as many miles in as possible in them. You night look funny walking round the office in hiking boots but it will be worth it!
Turkey for Women:
Widely regarded as have the most beautiful coast on the Mediterranean Turkey is a democratically elected country. Turks drink if they want, smoke if they want to, wear a headscarf if they want to, and don't if they don't want too. You can feel perfectly safe as a woman here and can feel completely comfortable in the same summer clothes you would wear in the UK.
Turkey and Middle East Troubles
Like London there have been some middle east related troubles in Turkey. These are mainly around the eastern border and are approximately the same distance away from Kas as Berlin is from London.
How to get off the waiting list?! A popular question... If you are on the waiting list and a place becomes available, remove your RSVP from the waiting list completely, then remark your RSVP as yes, if payment is required and you wish to pay by bank transfer, pay, then e mail the event organiser who will add you to the yes RSVP's.
