SUMMARY:Harbour Cruise Extended
DESCRIPTION:Over 60 years old - Peddler's (cycling)\nHarbour Cruise\n\nThi
s is our normal harbourside ride. We go out along Tamaki Drive to St Helie
rs beach for lunch and then track through St Heliers to reach the new Te A
ra ki Uta ki Tai path before coming back along the waterfront back to the
city. All concrete\, some road work but a lot of cycleways.\n\nThe startin
g point is the Buoy Cafe (meet at 10.15am - stands up 1030am) which is loc
ated next to the Roundabout under the Harbour Bridge. Coffee\, Breakfast &
Loos. If you want to pay for your parking then you can either use Z pier
or the Westhaven marina however most of the latter are 120 minutes only. T
he best place is Point Erin Park which offers 240 minutes free. When you c
ome out of the car park on your bike\, go right\, cross over motorway acce
ss to the bridge and you will then find a cycleway going alongside the wat
er all the way to the Cafe just after the bridge.\n\nAfter gathering at Bu
oy Cafe we go down the marine boardwalk all the way to Beaumont Street\, s
hortcut across Victoria Park up to Nelson Street and then across to the pi
nk pathway and down Grafton Gully which is long downhill run past the univ
ersity towards the port. You need good brakes on this one and need to leav
e some room between cyclists.\n\nWe then track along the harbour side all
the way to St Heliers. to have some lunch on the beach before we tackle so
me hills. There are a couple of bakeries and a fish and chip shop where ca
n get lunch and sit on the beach admiring the view whilst chatting.\n\nAft
er lunch we track along to Kohi\, along the Parade\, up Fern Glen Road\, a
long Long drive and St Heliers Bay Road to the beginning of Te Ara ki Uta
ki Tai (adjacent the Meadowbank Pony Club). Fern Glen Road is one long hil
l and St Heliers Bay Road is a bit messy for cyclists but the track at the
end is worth it.\n\nAfter swooping down Te Ara ki Uta ki Tai then we come
out at Kings Plant barn where we track along Ngapipi Road (no road works
at present) back to the waterfront and through to Auckland via the viaduct
back to the Buoy Cafe.\n\nThis is a good ride for non-ebikes as it is mos
tly flat. There are however some hills on Nelson Street and Fern Glen Road
but neither is particularly challenging or long. As normal then:\n\n* **T
his is weather dependent\, so if it looks like rain\, I will cancel Monday
night.**\n\\- Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel si
ze\\.\n\\- We travel at circa 25ks an hour except for down hills\\.\n\\- W
e stop often to bunch up\\.\n\\- We have a tail end Charlie to make sure r
iders do not get lost\\.\n\\- We are not too fond of leaving people behind
\\.\n\\- Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are
not bike mechanics\\.\n\\- If you are signed up for the ride but change yo
ur mind at the last minute please text or phone me \\(Nichola on 021 652 1

SUMMARY:Beyond the path in the garden
DESCRIPTION:Over 60 years old - Peddler's (cycling)\nMany a time we have d
one a ride out the Henderson Creek path to follow the Opanuku Cycleway thr
ough the park to wind up at a stop at Henderson Valley Road where we all t
urn around and ride back again. Ever wondered what lies beyond? Here is yo
ur chance to find out.\n\nThis ride starts at Waitakere town and comes bac
k towards Henderson connecting towards the end to the Opanuku Stream path
before heading off to lunch in Henderson at The Alderman. Surface consists
of a fair amount of quiet back country roads\, some gravel roads\, city s
treets and cycleways through parks. The quiet back country roads are narro
w with no footpath so require cyclists to be traffic aware and single file
at times.\n\nI would rate this ride at an Intermediate level due to road
works involved. Suitable for all types of bikes\, riding on country roads
and some cycle paths. Pace is medium. Some rider experience and ability re
commended. Some steep climbs on a few rural roads so good fitness levels r
equired if using non ebikes.\nThe ride starts at the carpark in Township R
oad Waitakere before heading up McEntee road and turning down Crows road t
o the Birdwood Road corner. We head down Glen Road to the Urlich Esplanade
Reserve and follow the share gravel path along the Waimoko stream to Swan
son Road. We then cycle up the footpath to the traffic lights on Swanson R
oad corner with N Candia Road. Then cross and head up O’Neill’s Road\,
down Drower Road\, up Coulter to the corner with Candia Road. We then tra
vel down Candia Road and turn off down Sturges road to San Marino Drive th
en link up to the Oponuku cycleway into Henderson. While travelling down S
turges road look out to your left to see the historic former Mangaweka DC-
3 roadside café situated on a private lifestyle property. We will stop fo
r lunch at the Alderman Café in Falls Park where there is plenty of space
for parking the bikes on the grass outdoor area. We will return after lun
ch on the Oponuku cycleway to Henderson Valley Road then up Candia Road to
Vineyard Road then along Coulter Road up Drower Road down O’Neill’s t
o Mettam Drive. Then onto Swanson Road up Kay Road the down McEntee Road t
o the Township Road carpark.\n\nTotal distance is 37.41km with 546m ascent
and is a mixture of hills and flat with care required re traffic. We pass
through a variety of vistas including farmland\, bush\, streams and city
views. Sometimes kookaburra and kereru can be seen perched on power lines
along Swanson rural roads.\nAs Normal then:\n\n* Please bring a spare tube
for your particular bike wheel size.\n* We travel at circa 20ks an hour e
xcept for down hills.\n* We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do
not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.\n* Assistance
will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
\n* Riders are encouraged to wear Hi Vis or visible colours at least\n\nIf
you are signed up for the ride but change your mind at the last minute\,
please text or phone me on 02102877980 to advise. Same if you are running
 late.

SUMMARY:Coast to Coast\, Twin Coast Northland Trail
DESCRIPTION:Over 60 years old - Peddler's (cycling)\n**WHERE ARE WE RIDING
TO:**\nWe are going to ride the Coast to Coast\, Twin Coast Northland Tra
il.\nDay 1: We depart our motel (Twin Coast Adventure Motel) and head WEST
over to Horeke on the beautiful Hokianga Harbour.\n\nDay 2: We depart our
motel (Twin Coast Adventure Motel) and head EAST over to Kawakawa and aft
er a little train ride we make our way to Opua in the stunning Bay of Isla
nds.\n\n**THE RIDE:**\nFriday or (early) Saturday morning: Drive up to Kai
kohe\, about 231kms (3 hours) from Auckland and check in.\nSaturday: We de
part the motel carpark at 1030am and head towards Horeke. We start by goin
g up a long but gentle uphill\, through a railway tunnel\, around Lake Oma
pere to Okaihau – all up 14kms. There we have a light lunch before ridin
g through some orchards and down a cliff – literally. The first time you
see it you ask which lunatic designed this but in reality it is not as st
eep as it looks and quite walkable if uncertain. Once you get to the botto
m you proceed along a long stretch of rough gravel road before getting to
the boardwalk – 1200 metres over the harbour before getting to Horeke. P
uts any other boardwalk I have ridden to shame. At Horeke there is the Man
gungu Mission House and the Horeke Pub. From there we catch a shuttle back
to Kaikohe. Total distance day 1: 42km – about the same as Paeroa to Wa
ihi and back.\n\nSunday: The second day is a real mixture where you start
with sandy forestry tracks\, then bush tracks\, gravel roads and finally t
racks besides roads heading into Moerewa. Mostly flat some downhills. Afte
r Moerewa you head across a causeway over a swamp to Kawakawa where you co
ntemplate the local loos and have some lunch. After lunch you cycle 3.2 km
to Te Ake Ake where you catch a train to Taumarere where you disembark an
d cycle the last 4.4km to Opua for the shuttle back to the motel. Total Di
stance Day 2: 45kms. Drive Home Sunday night or stay and enjoy some time a
t the Bay of Islands.\n\nRIDE DIFFICULTY:\nI'd rate this ride difficulty a
t the lower end of intermediate level.\nYou will need to have a reasonable
level of confidence and experience as we will be cycling along\, road\, g
ravel and firm forrest tracks. Although to be fair\, we are not in a rush
and stop frequently for photos\, a swig from our drink bottles and a chat.
\nSuitable for all bikes\, but acoustic riders should be fit.\nEbikes woul
d be my recommendation.\n\n**LOGISTICS:**\nDrive up on Friday or early Sat
urday morning. Our preferred operator is Twin Coast Adventures [https://tw
 incoastadventures.co.nz/](https://twincoastadventures.co.nz/)\nTheir addre
ss is 30/36 Raihara Street\, Kaikohe. Ph 094012743 who offer an all in one
service. Motel Reservations are circa $150 for a twin suite and shuttles
are priced dependent on the number of passengers. There are unfortunately
no single suites however if we get enough singles you could rent a family
suite and share that.\nIMPORTANT NOTE: YOU NEED TO BOOK YOUR OWN ACCOMMODA
TION. IF YOU NEED TO SHARE\, SUGGEST CONTACTING SOMEONE IN THE GROUP TO BU
DDY UP WITH.\nWe do not mandate staying at Twin Coast Adventures Motel\, i
f you prefer to stay somewhere else\, but you can still use the motel shut
tle. A note of warning: just check security for your bike and car. There t
ends to be some theft issues at times.\n\nAs per our usual ride protocols:
\n\n*Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.\n- We
travel at circa 20ks an hour except for down hills.\n*We will cancel for r
ain but not for showers.\n- We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders
do not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.\n*Assistan
ce will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanic
s.\n- If you are signed up for the ride but change your mind at the last m
inute please text or phone me (Graeme) on 027 2853779 to advise.

SUMMARY:Personal Ads for Future Rides by Members 2026
DESCRIPTION:Over 60 years old - Peddler's (cycling)\nThis is not a ride bu
t a post to advise members they can open discussions on future bike trips
online here. We get lots of members looking for other members to join them
on future trips eg: “I am thinking of doing the timber trail in October
  – anyone interested?” “I want to do the Alps to Ocean at Christmas
……… I want to do the Waihi trip on the weekend…..The problem is ho
wever is that the right person who wants to do a similar trip is not alway
s there at that time or ride….\n\nHaving done lots of these trips there
are some real benefits in doing them as a small group particularly logisti
 cs\, safety\, know-how\, company and perhaps accommodation.\n\nIf you are
interested in being advised of what other members are doing by way of pers
onal rides and potentially want to join in simply join this event.\n\nIf y
ou want to ask if members are interested in doing a ride then join this ev
ent\, go to the comments section below this narrative and advise what ride
 (s) you are proposing and dates – can be approximate. You may also want
to supply an E-Mail address or phone number so that responders can contact
you directly outside of the website.\n\nIf you are not interested in rece
iving these e-mails about rides people want to do not join this event or c
hange your attendance to a No.\n\nWhat happens is that the comments you ma
ke here are then sent to only the members who are enrolled for this event
and if they are interested in coming on your ride with you they can reply
to your comments either direct to you or via the website. Note this is dif
ferent to the Discussions Tab on the Website which goes to all members.\n\
nIf anybody’s personal ride gets major interest (as in lots of members w
anting to do it) then we will quite happily work with the proposer to set
up a separate event.\n\nIf this idea works for members then come January w
hen this non-existent ride occurs we will cancel it and set up a new one f
or next year.\n\nIf we get lots of "comments" in the interim we will cull
the ones past their use by date.\n\nLook forward to your comments.
