Arts Group live! presents a night of alternative folk-pop at The White House

After our first Arts Group Live event featuring The Andy Kennedy Quartet, we present an evening featuring some of the most talented acts to have emerged from the Oxford alternative folk-pop and acoustic scene:

From the beat-pop melodies and swirling violins of Ragdoll, through the beautiful and beguiling folk narratives of Megan Henwood and the sheer songwriting virtuosity of Simon Davies, Oxfordshire's musical creativity is alive and well and not necessarily needing to shout to draw attention to itself.

Pleased that Simon was able to reach a wider audience and deliver such a strong set, fortuitous comedy interruptions notwithstanding. Thanks also to Megan for making herself available at short notice and for Ragdoll for keeping our spirits up, as well as maybe their own, when audience numbers were dwindling. Perhaps we'll have to consider an even earlier start in future. The venue is humble, but in my opinion, ideal for this sort of event, and we'll certainly put on more events if we can raise sufficient interest. I don't want to continually be in the position of losing money, which is becoming an unfortunate habit on these occasions. Anyway, thanks to everyone for coming along, and for letting me know about changes of plans. Both of these things matter, and the Arts Group is becoming exemplary in both aspects.

Do not start before 7:30. Have a shorter interval. 20 min should be enough time to get drinks. I think some people left during the interval because it was very long.

Talked to Neil in Crown yesterday and we agreed 7.30pm would be good kick off time and I thought shorter interval would be good to stop people drifting off as people tend to get drinks if they want them during sets - don't thinkN was so keen on that. But if invite said from 7pm but actually start promptly at 7.30pm should work

I think 7.00 is too early. You want some atmosphere for an indoor music event. People expect to out a bit late, surely. The early timing puts it into an in between slot
