Join us for a Photoshoot at the Del Mar Racetrack and shoot the early morning Workouts. Each morning the trainers are having their horses get in shape for upcoming races. You will have an opportunity to practice your skills of catching the horses in action. Let's meet by Will Call at 7:00 AM.
Your telephoto lenses will work best, i.e. 70-200,[masked],[masked],[masked], etc. No flashes or tripods. Monopods are okay to bring.
There should not be a fee for parking at this time as there is no racing this day. If they do charge, I believe it will be $10 per car but we expect that there will be no charge. You will park in the general parking and walk into the entrance and meet us by Will Call. If you come in after 7 AM, make your way around to the paddock. (on your left before the Club House) and you will see where the horses normally enter the track on race day turn to proceed down to the track area (do not walk into the paddock or the entrance to the track stay on the concrete) and we will be there starting at 7 AM. They do ask us not to arrive much earlier than 7 AM. the workouts conclude at 10 AM (it usually slows down before that). We will be staying in the Grandstand area.
Walter and I will give instructions for panning photography to those interested. Here are some examples with EXIF information for each image. They were all taken shutter priority: Horse Racing Panning (http://www.pbase.com/amoxtli/horse_racing_panning)
There normally is a place open for breakfast and coffee, bring cash.
It should be a fun time. You will not have access to the barn area on this meetup.
Please email me or Walter with any questions.
