• Holiday Sunset Shoot Pacific Beach - Crystal Pier
Beautiful in any season, the Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach is decked out for the holidays. Most notable is the Christmas tree at the end of the pier. We will keep our fingers crossed for a great December sunset as a bonus! We will meet at the entrance gates of the Crystal Pier at 4:00 PM (by Kono’s). We’ll do a group shot on the pier, then head to the south side of the Pier and set up. Sunset is at 4:44 pm, nautical twilight is at 5:41. The tide will be going out; low tide is at 5:10 pm. What to bring: Tripod, Cable Release, wide angle, medium zooms such as 24-70mm and a flashlight. It's a good idea to use the buddy system on the beach, making sure you stay with at least one of our group. Street parking is available, although a bit of walking might be involved as more spots are likely to be available east of Mission Blvd. Paid lots also are available in the area. If you are late or lost, text or call Janie[masked]. For those who want information regarding time exposures, here is a good link to familiarize yourself: http://digital-photography-school.com/night-photography Please Note: By submitting a YES RSVP and participating in any PPS event, you agree that PPS, Organizers, and Event Hosts are NOT responsible for your safety or for any injury or damage to your person or your property, or that of your guest(s). • Christmas lights
No specific date for taking the Christmas pictures. (the app requires it). The Christmas season has many places for night time christmas lights. This is the place to post your christmas lights photos. THIS IS NOT A SCHEDULED MEET-UP. You can post only night time photos of christmas lights here. We all would enjoy seeing where these pictures were taken. Just post a comment under the picture where is was taken. Have a merry Christmas from all of us at PPS, enjoy. I am not going to limit it to first timers only, but I would like people who have been many times to please let others do this. Please read through and be sure you can attend before you RSVP! We have been given another opportunity to have full access to Del Mar Race Track from the Media director of the DMTC for the 2018 Fall Race Season. This is the last opportunity of the year. • November Weekday Photo Shoot: San Diego Zoo
Join us for a fun and exciting weekday Photo Shoot in the beautiful month of November at the San Diego Zoo! The lighting, temperatures and photo-ops should be better. The temperatures should be more comfortable and the crowds not too busy. Tourists are gone for the most part and the kids are back at school. We will meet to the right of the entrance in front of the membership booth at 8:30a.m. and do the group photo and get in line at 8:45a.m. We will enter the Zoo when it opens at 9:00a.m. sharp. Please be on time! If you are late or lost, do not worry, you can call me Walter on my cell phone at[masked], and I will tell you where we are, but try not be late. (As cell phone reception is not good in many areas of the Zoo, I may not answer) Maps are available at the entrance. If you're unfamiliar with the Zoo, take a map. Here is a link to the Zoo web site: San Diego Zoo (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/) Our Route. Our route will be determined a few days before the shoot and be sent out to you. If anyone has any requests for animals they want to photograph, send me an email and I'll try to work it in. All shoots for the remainder of this year will include the Hummingbird House as it will soon be torn down. :( Some special notes (Please read this too): If you RSVP YES, please show up, otherwise change your RSVP to NO. Bring walking shoes, water, hats and sunscreen etc. or whatever you need. A long telephoto zoom is the best lens to bring. You can also pack your lunch if you like. Correct etiquette for Zoo Passes: If you are a member of the Zoo and have a guest pass that can be used by a non-member, please indicate so when you RSVP. If you need a guest pass, please contact the person offering the guest pas via personal message. If your offered pass has been taken, please indicate so. By following this simple procedure we will avoid generating hundreds of emails. Thank you! This generosity has helped quite a few people in our photo shoots in the past, as the current admission for non-members is now (gulp) $52.00. Thank you. Members needing assistance or who have questions can ask me or any other Organizers present. We will be glad to help. There will also be other experienced photographers present willing to help out. It should be another great day out. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas you can email Walter by going to my member profile. If you get lost or separated from the group, call my cell phone,[masked]. See you there! Please Note: By submitting a YES RSVP you agree that PPS, Organizers and Event Hosts are not responsible for your safety, or for any injury or accident of your person or your property. You agree that you have read the instructions of the announcement and that you are able to participate in the event at your own risk.

  • San Clemente Pier at Sunset - Thanksgiving Weekend Edition
Finish out Thanksgiving weekend with a Sunday evening visit to the beautiful San Clemente Pier and sunset and low tide. Take images of the pier, the fishermen and sunset strollers on the pier, or turn and photograph the beachfront buildings, palm trees and train from the pier or the beach. Look for the area's pro and grom surfers near the pier and in the T-Street area, a short walk south down the beach. Watch for the elusive green flash - a possibility in the winter. We will meet on the pier, between the Fisherman's Restaurant and the bar. (Look for the blue umbrellas of the outdoor eating areas.) We will take the group shot on the pier and look for shots there, then move to the beach. Sunset is at 4:43 pm and nautical twilight ends at 5:40. Low tide (-.85 feet) is at 4:44 pm, and we will hope for good reflections of the pier. Several trains will pass through on the tracks at the base of the pier without stops. NOTE: This is the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to check traffic to allow yourself sufficient travel time. If you decide to arrive early, there are ample photo ops on the pier, and there are several food choices across the street, as well as the bar and restaurant on the pier. Parking is available on the street and plentiful in the nearby Pier Bowl parking lot. All parking is $1.50 per hour until 5 pm, free after that. If you use the lot, be sure to pay the parking machine and put the ticket on the car's dash. Car pooling is encouraged. Use the comment section to indicate where you would like to meet and how many passengers you can take. Tripods and remote shutter releases are recommended. Best lenses will be wide angle or short zooms. You may wish to play with a graduated neutral density filter to balance the bright sky and the darker water near sunset. Those who wish to stay will gather about 6:00 pm at the Fisherman's Bar to have a snack before the return trip. (Sorry, no happy hour specials on Sunday night.) In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled or postponed to November 26. Notice of the cancellation or postponement will be given by 10 am on November 25. If you are late or have questions, text or call Janie Anderson at[masked]. Please Note: By submitting a YES RSVP and participating in any PPS event, you agree that PPS, Organizers, and Event Hosts are NOT responsible for your safety or for any injury or damage to your person or your property, or that of your guest(s). You agree that you have read the instructions of the announcement and that you and your guest(s) are assuming all risks of participating in the event.
