I try to stay outside trail running, hiking, paddling as much as possible... afraid if I slow down I won't be able to get going again.

I like rivers, headed up stream into the current is fun. What I don't usually care for, unless the water is high, is putting in the river, pointing down stream and paddling to the take out. Which is why I have been on only one of this groups river floats. I like to stop and stretch my back often and stop and play in the play spots.
Two of the best play spots on the Harpeth, Lindsey's rapids (Mound Bottom) and Kingston Springs @ LL Burns Park. Both are very close to put-in so no shuttle necessary. By Burns Park, depending on the level there are beginner friendly surfing waves. Mound Bottom, just down from the Gossett Tract put-in, is the fastest spot on the Harpeth. There are large eddies on both sides making it a banner place to ferry (see profile pic).
Got the paddling joneses, less than twice a week and I go into withdrawals.
The best folks you'll ever meet.
