East River to Fakahatchee Bay and Return

  • to
  • East River Canoe Launch

5.2 West of Highway 29 on Highway 41 (unmarked turnoff), Naples, FL (map)

    26.139090 -81.795792

  • The upper East River is narrow winding river replete with Mangrove tunnels and bays. The lower East River is wider channel and empties into Fakahatchee Bay. We will paddle to a landing in Fakahatchee bay ad return.

The paddle is 12 miles round trip. The pace will be moderate. There is little open water so this is suitable for most paddlers that are comfortable with 12 miles at a moderate pace. There should be some tidal assist. This is a popular paddle and one of the MIPA 10 "essentials."

Trip host Ron Martin and I were discussing this paddle and looking at the tides and we decided to move up the launch time to be better coordinated with the tide. Also an earlier launch time will put is back closer to lunch and not so late in the day. Many of us enjoy going out for lunch or drinks after a paddle. Please note the new launch time.

No worries, we are scheduling these in advance for several reasons. First, we have decided to repeat 10 "essential" paddles year after year. Most of our members enjoy these routes and scheduling in advance allows us to properly space the paddles and attempt to find accommodating tides in advance and not have to squeeze in the paddles hoping to find decent tides. Also, by scheduling paddles in advance our members and meetup members will be aware what activities are being offered and can plan their paddle time accordingly. Certainly and understandably there will be people who need to change their RSVP. Your comments are appreciated and we look forward to seeing you on MIPA paddles.
