338 Capri Blvd, Naples, FL
We will have three formal community/membership meetings during the season. Our meetings will be the on the third Thursday of November (2016), and January and March (2017).
Bob Lubin, MIPA Director and Meetup organizer will be hosting the topical part of the January meeting on Thursday, January 19. The speaker will be Donald Belmont, MD. Dr. Belmont is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, and is currently an Associate Professor at St Luke's- Temple University Medical School. Dr. Belmont is certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Belmont is also an accomplished kayaker and local Naples resident.
Dr. Belmont will discuss such topics as recognizing medical emergencies on the water (such as heat exhaustion or cardiac events), treating injuries (to the extent possible) while kayaking with others, and the proper preparation of a kayak-ready first aid kit. (You carry a first aid kit in your kayak - right?) There will be ample time for questions and discussions on this potentially life saving topic. You are also invited to post topic-related questions ahead of time that you would wish to have addressed.
After the presentation we will hold the annual MIPA membership meeting and present nominees for the MIPA Board of Directors. We will also hold an election for one open seat on the Board of Directors. If you would like to serve on the Board of Directors, or nominate someone, please contact us or present your nomination at that time.
All paddlers are encouraged to attend the presentation by Dr. Belmont. However, participation in the business meeting will be restricted to MIPA members. Please also know that only MIPA members are eligible to vote or hold office.
