Charles River Paddle at Millis / Medfield Marsh on Route 109

  • This location is shown only to members

This is my first Organized Paddle, yet I have Kayaked here several times in the last 4 years.  The Paddle will be 2 to 3 hours from Route 109 to Forest Street in Millis and back (unless you leave a vehicle at Forest Street).

This section of the Charles is maintained by the Trustees of The Reservation (and me when I have a trash bag).   It is rich in Indian History.

If I am missing anything here please email me directly at [masked] or call my Cell at[masked]-1114.

***PLEASE NOTE*** The organizers in this group are NOT trained leaders or instructors.  The organizers only set the time and place, each person participating in any group trip is responsible for their own safety.  Each participant is responsible for evaluating all relevant conditions for the trip and determining if their skills and equipment are appropriate for those conditions.

Fine area. A good deal of wild life, including brave herons that don't spook.

Had a great time out on the winding Charles River today.
Thank you Hazel, Don, Armen and Laura for joining me.
I hope to Paddle with you again soon. Don, sorry I couldn't join you for a Hike, but when I kayak, I kayak - hope you made it out of the woods ok. (did you hear banjos)

Have a conflict and can't go, but thanks for organizing this. The Charles River is delightful.

    Hi,
Is it 2-3 hours one way or round trip?

    August 22, 2014

    • Scott W. M.

Hi Renee, it's Approx. 3 hrs round trip (to Forrest street and back) I take my time because I 'clean' the river when I Paddle so it depends on if go straight away or take time to smell the Lily Pads.

Is it possible to rent a kayak at this location?

    August 22, 2014

    • Scott W. M.

Hi Silvie - there is a Telephone Number at this site to reserve a Kayak rental but I don't have it handy. Do you live near there, or would you like me to run by and get the number for you?

So a co-worker has decided to join us on The Charles River tomorrow, so their will be one more person who is new to the Sport/Hobby. I look forward to meeting all of you who have RSVP'd and will make this a Meet-Up to remember.

FYI, This is a winding lazy River, if you have multiple Kayaks, I prefer my 10 footer. There are also some boulders and low water spots which may be tough for wood kayaks. Just my 2 cents. See you Sunday.

The Map pointer shows Rte 115, which is NOT right. We will drop in on Rte 109 near Tresca Bros. (you see the Charles River clearly on Map) I will be there at 9:45AM in a dark Green Jeep Liberty with bumper sticker 'Paddle faster, I hear banjos'
