Meetup dos and don'ts - Please read

Hi everyone,

There are a few things you should be aware of before joining us for a meetup.  These are things that come to mind right now and if anyone has something to add, please do so by going to the discussion board to make a post under this topic.

All meetup attendees must wear a Coast Guard Approved, properly fitted and fastened PFD at all times. This is not just for your safety, but for the consideration and safety of untrained meetup attendees who may be called upon to help you if you find yourself out of your kayak, needing a rescue.

(PLEASE NOTE - The organizers in this group are NOT trained leaders or instructors.  The organizers only set the time and place, each person participating in any group trip is responsible for their own safety.  Each participant is responsible for evaluating all relevant conditions for the trip and determining if their skills and equipment are appropriate for those conditions.)

When paddling after sunset a flashlight or headlamp is required by law in Massachusetts.  It does not have to be on all the time, but "at the ready" should it be needed to avoid a collision with another boat.

When we meet at a venue with a boat ramp, do not block the ramp with your vehicle or personal belongings (including your kayak).  Please unload your gear and launch to the side(s) of the ramp where possible.  When there is no adjacent area and you must launch from the ramp, please do so quickly.

Please note that the meetup time is often the launch time.  Please read the meetup description carefully and allow enough time to unload and be ready to paddle with everyone on time.

If you are new to kayaking and have not paddled before, or have never paddled with a group and are unsure of your ability to stay with the group, please advise the meetup organizer of your concerns. Most of our paddling is at a leisurely pace, suitable for a novice paddler.
