Imbolc R.O.C.

  • This location is shown only to members

Trot and Lynx live in the area effected by the Ash slides. They are going to try to find a new place in Feb but are still willing to hold the event at their house. There is one LARGE consideration though, they do not have safe water in their home unless it is brought in. So please take this into consideration we making your plans for the evening. I would suggest (and I hate doing it) making sure that the stuff you bring is dispossable or you are prepared to take anything that needs washing home with you. Also to bring enough drinks for yourself and any water you might need while on property. Also, they wish the ritual to involve the healing of the waters (both locally globally) so if you could please bring a small amount of YOUR home's water supply be it city tap, well, spring, or whatever so we might mix them to use as our water for the ritual. Imbolc Celebration Healing of the Waters Rite Imbolc R.O.C. Contests for House Cup Competition 2009 Imbolc/Oimelc/Bridmas/Candlemas is the time when the world begins to awaken. It is the celebration of the beginnings of Spring. New Life abounds, the ewe's milk flows, and the time of hunger is almost over. The tradition of Spring cleaning is marked on this day and the hearth's (and house's) were cleaned out for the first time since Yule (and sometimes even Samhain) then they would be relit from a communal bonfire. The house would be cleaned and spruced up. There will be three competitions which focus on these seasonal activities. Bridget's Relay The first competition will be Bridget's Relay. A long held tradition of the Kaetwyrd school, Bridget's Relay is a symbolic carrying of the light from the communal source into the house. Four members from each house will be given tapers and set at various points between the ritual fire and the host house. The member closest to the ritual fire will carry the flame from the fire to the second member and so one until the fourth member lights the House flame for their house from their taper. 1st Place - 5 pts 2nd Place - 3pts 3rd Place - 1pt The Spruce up your House Contest The second competition for the Imbolc R.O.C. will be The Spruce up your House Contest. This will be a costume contest voted on by all those in attendance. The criteria is simple each house will vote which member of the house's costume or mode of dress is representative or indicative of the spirit of the House. Then everyone will vote on which of the four is the best. There will be 5pts awarded for the best costume and the House will also get the individual votes counted toward their total scores. Oimelc Feast The third competition will be a Feast-based Contest. The contest will be voted on by one representative from each of the four Houses and Thorne will break any ties. Entries must be available for tasting before ritual begins, must have a card saying which type of entry they are, and must include a recipe which may be included in a cookbook. - Best Dish Featuring Dairy - 5pts - Best Dish Featuring Winter stores - 4pts ((Nuts, dehydrated fruits & vegetables, jerkeys, preserves, pickles, etc)) - Best Side Dish featuring Wild Game- 4pts As always points will also be awarded for attendance. Each house will also receive one point for every matching RSVP on the Yule R.O.C. meetup page. That means if you RSVP "YES" and you show up then your house gets point. If you RSVP "NO" and you do not show up then you house gets a point. Each house will be penalized one point for every non-matching RSVP on the Yule R.O.C. meetup page. That means if you RSVP "YES" and do NOT show up your house will lose one point. If you RSVP "NO" and do show up then your house will lose one point. In addition, each house will be penalized one point for every member who does not RSVP on the Yule R.O.C. meetup page. Any house that does not have at least one member in attendance will forfeit any points that they might have received. To find out more about the House Cup Competition, other Contests were you can earn points, about the houses, or to join a house - go to

It was bittersweet--some of it was fun, but some of it was extremely sobering. The coal ash spill SUCKS and it made me sick to realize what it had done to the earth. But it was good to feel like we were recognizing it and doing something about it.

I had a wonderful time. This was my first Imbolc gathering and I was made to feel very welcome. I would like to just say thank you to everyone, most especially to Trotfox and Snowlynx for hosting us.

9:30 isn't too late to show up. I was going to start ritual around 8:00 or 8:30, which means it'll probably be around 9:00 Pagan Standard Time ;D If you miss ritual, you'll still be in time for food and sleepover and stuff!

Exit 355 off 40 West (Lawnville). Make a right (North) onto Lawnville, go 1.3 miles. Make a left (West) onto Lane Hedgecock. Go 1 mile, keep left when road splits (right fork is "Bendamere"), go .3 mile, arrive at 103 Merriwater Way (House is in little bowl of a valley on the left side of the road, and is covered in Christmas lights)

Alright folks, the last two R.O.C.s have been spectacular.... the Meetups are as fun as we should probably be allowed in a public restaurant.... and the Drum Circle was almost beyond belief... Lets keep up the trend with the Imbolc R.O.C.
