Theme: Magical Creatures and Where to Draw Them. Need to tap into a creative community and love drawing? Then pack your sketchbook and head over to Cura Studios. You'll get to hang out and chat with other artists over some drinks in a casual art studios environment. We'll also have some images to jump start your imagination, you can raid our prop cabinet, or you can work on your own project... what you draw is completely up to you. This is basically a drink and draw, but we like calling it a sketch session ;) Space is limited so please rsvp. Drinks can be bought for a small fee. Host: Ben Hosac (Game Artist)
Horse lovers, animal friends and sketch aficionados, join us for two free horse sketching sessions, 5/25, 4-6pm, and 7/27 4-6pm. The one and only Marshall Vandruff will give us invaluable insights on how to approach this subject as we hang out at the beautiful Anaheim Equestrian Center. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Meet us at Cura Studios, where Marshall will kick off the session with some solid pointers on drawing horses, and then we'll head on over to the barn, mere minutes away from Cura Studios. Bring your sketchbook, your love for horses and any art pals who need to get out and draw more. Let us know you are coming and rsvp!

FAQ’s: I’ve never painted before can I attend? Absolutely! This class is perfect for beginners, as well as artists looking to expand their understanding of this medium. I’m not very talented, does that matter? Not at all. Drawing and painting are universal skills and can be learned by anyone willing to try something outside their comfort zone. Effort and commitment are required, talent is optional. I’m away on one of the dates can I have a refund for that day? Unfortunately no. Purchase of the class is final. You will, however, receive an email with notes from the day you will be absent. You’ll also have the opportunity to use the open studio for one day to practice what you have missed. What style of painting do you teach? I teach all my classes in a way that doesn’t focus on style, as style is something that develops naturally and individually through practicing for years. Instead, I teach fundamental principles that will form solid building blocks for any further education or self-study. I've had some instruction on this topic before, is this class suitable for someone with prior knowledge? The great thing about fundamental principles is that they will never conflict with well-founded information only compliment and strengthen it. Great artists know the importance of staying open to new insights and solutions while carefully evaluating if they are suitable for what they hope to achieve. In that spirit I believe this class will only help to grow your skill set. I don’t know where/don’t have time to buy the materials. Having the right materials is crucial for a good painting experience. Go to https://www.curaoc.com/oil-painting for a list of recommended materials and stores, or click below and purchase the upgraded class which includes all materials.
Do you feel a little aimless with your creativity? Have you lost your sense of clarity on what and why to create? Or could you simply use a little boost of inspiration, and a group that holds you accountable to your goals? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this forum might be just the thing you've been looking for. In these sessions you can choose your focus and opt to: Receive structured and well-guided peer feedback on your current work Start a discussion around an art related subject of your choice Dive deep into a topic by preparing to share a fascinating reading snippet The forum is for artists who believe in the value of an objective, outside perspective, and in learning through a deeply focused discussion. This is not the place for never-ending monologues, excuses, insensitive feedback or false niceties. In this group we agree to engage in truth seeking and aim to check each other's confirmation biases with kindness and honesty. To participate email [masked] and let me know what you want to focus on. Space is limited to 7 artists who are ready to get focused. FAQ's ***I'm in, but where do I start? Get clear on what you are seeking the most. Are you stuck with a particular piece you are working on? Are you having trouble seeing a direction for your current body of work? Then bring in your physical work so we can give you feedback. Have you been grappling with an art-related question that you can't seem to find a solution to? This can be art business related, philosophical in nature, or a question of technique. Write it down as clearly as you can so we can create a discussion around it. Do you grow most by sharing inspiring insights? Prepare a clear and succinct summary of the content you wish to share. Need something great to read? Email me and I'll send you a fantastic list to choose from. Are you seeking accountability? Write down your goals and any questions you may have surrounding them, and we'll listen, support, point out blindspots, and cheer you on. ***How is this forum structured? Will I be sure to get my turn? I'm keeping this forum purposefully small, so we can all have 15-20 minutes of focus. The moderator will keep time and make sure the discussion stays on topic. Artists are welcome to waive their turn in order to give more time to a fascinating discussion. ***What kind of subjects can we bring up for discussion? Anything that is art related and artist-life relevant. We believe that we benefit from a broad exposure to various disciplines and subjects, instead of staying confined to our narrow niche. We hope to attract comic book artists, abstract and figurative painters, graphic designers, game artists, illustrators, and anyone else swimming in the visual arts pool. ***Can I bring a friend? If they want a turn they have to rsvp first to ensure there is an open spot. We don't allow spectators as these kinds of discussions can put the presenting artists in a vulnerable position, and we want to honor the courage it takes by all agreeing to participate. ***What if I don't agree with what is being said? That's fine, and to be expected. This group isn't here to give fool-proof answers, but to stimulate a rich discussion, which hopefully will move everyone forward. **I'd love to get feedback on a painting/drawing but I fear that I'm not good enough for this group. You are good enough! Even if it's your first week of drawing, if you are truly open for peer insight we are here to give you our best advice, taking into account where you are at in your creative journey. Did I miss anything? Email me at [masked] and I'll gladly any other questions.
