Where: Updated: The vets & Guardians will be boarding busses at Naples airport between 330 and 430 am. We will be assembling and boarding RSW from[masked] am. We will be returning to RSW approx. 945 pm.

Come On Paradise Members. Lets get out and support our HONOR FLIGHT.

What: We need people to cheer to our WWII men and women as they head to the airport. If some are ambitious they can be at airport too. (maybe meetup up there can help cheer our guys and gals at the airport).

These are things that are not part of the day event, but if anyone asks these are

other things people can do to prepare for this day.

1.  They can help write letters thanking our Veterans for their service and write letters welcoming them home.

2.  Cookies, etc can be brought to pack as goodie bags for them.

3.  Someone can be a guardian and go on the flight. This is a cost of $400.00 for this.

                                        IMPORTANT INFORMATION

They have started a new hub in Collier County for our WWII men and women.

Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect all their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill

Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation—and as a culturally diverse, free society. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, we lose an estimated 640 WWII veterans each day. Our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out.

: Non-profit organization to created solely to honor America's Veterans for all of their sacrifices by transporting these Heroes to Washington DC for the day to visit and reflect at THEIR memorials. Top Priority: WWII veterans. (NEVER A CHARGE TO THE VETERANS BEING HONORED)

WHEN: Our goal is the first flight for Collier County to be on November 09, 2013. (It is too cold during winter months to take them). If we don't make this time, then next flight will not occur until March 2014. Our men and women don't have this time to wait.

WHERE: Either from Naples airport or Punta Gorda airport to Washington DC and back home. This is done in one day.

WHY: Currently there are over 135 veterans on a waiting list to take the flight from our SW Florida area. Some Veterans on this list have already waited 2 years to get on...many have passed and never got the chance to go on the flight. This wait is too long when the youngest WWII veteran is in their late 80's. They fought for our freedom, this is the least we can do for them.

In order to get this done, we simply need financing and require additional guardians for our veterans.  Each guardian pays his or her way and escorts a veteran for the day.

As it is difficult for most of our elderly veterans to travel, and the fact that it is a one-day trip, we require non-stop flights.  We have spoken with many airlines, and it turns out that our requirements necessitate a charter.

Our Charter plans on taking 50 veterans, 50 guardians to escort the veteran, and ancillary persons.

1. We continue to seek out our WWII veterans to give them an application to take the flight. Many are unaware of the Honor Flight program. Let’s not leave any veteran behind!

2. We need guardians to assist the Veterans in Washington DC. One guardian for each veteran. Cost is $400.00 to be a guardian.

3. We need Volunteers. Volunteers to greet our veterans when they leave the airport, and when they return home. Volunteers can also help us write "thank you" and "welcome home" letters for our veterans.

4. Donate. The national Honor Flight HQ will match our first $10,000.00 received for our first trip to Washington DC. Guardians pay their way.  Cost to them is $400.00. We are looking for $25,000.00 in donations to cover a portion of our cost to fly.

5. Adopt a WWII veteran. Many of these wonderful people have outlived their family and need one in Naples.

Time is important, as every day these great men and women who made us what we are today are passing away. Please help us make our goal of sending these great men and women to Washington DC before Veteran's day.

Thank you for all your help.  A special thanks to Military Officer Association of Southwest Florida and Community Foundation of Collier County for sponsoring us.

Donations can be made to The Community Foundation of Collier County and earmarked for Collier County Honor Flight.

Attached are pictures of some of our board members serving as Guardians for an Honor Flight hub.

It is truly a lifetime experience for both the Veteran and the Guardian.

My father is one of our country's most decorated WWII heros, as a Darby's Ranger medic, he saved countless lives on the beaches of Normandy. I will help in other ways, the 3:30 a.m. is a bit tough that day, because I have a commitment on Sunday.
