Urs has suggested we organize a meetup for March 1st, say in Zürich Hauptbahnhof?  I think it's a good ideas so will post an announcement.

By the way, some of you know that the US Patent law is in the middle of a process of change, on a scale not seen in 175 years; change which began in September 2011 and will not be complete until March 2013.  I will be presenting the seminar, sponsored by the Swiss Patent Office, at the Hotel St. Gotthard, in English on the 24th of February, at the Metropol in Geneva on the 21st of March (in French), or in German in April in Bern.  Here’s the link, to sign up, preferably by 9 February 2012 (later signups are permitted so no problem) : https://www.ige.ch/fr/formation/the-us-patent-law-changes.html

I would appreciate it if you could inform contacts you think might be interested in the topic, given that the first event will take place so soon.

If you attend this workshop, you will learn what these changes are and how they will force you to adapt your firm’s patent strategy now, in 2013 and beyond. The changes include a move to a modified first-to-file or publicize system in which the applicant, prior art and the grace period is redefined, best mode becomes less of an issue, while an offer for sale anywhere becomes a real issue. In addition, liability for false marking is significantly reduced, virtual product marking is possible, and forum shopping and joinder in patent litigation is limited. If the US market is relevant to you, knowing what changes have been made is essential for you to be able to properly manage your patent portfolio.

 

Course goal

The goal of the workshop will be to show how knowledge of the new and old US patent law can be used to better position oneself vis-à-vis US-based competitors, particularly during this transitional phase. The course teaches exactly those facts and tricks which a Swiss-based company’s US competition would prefer that the Swiss-based company not know.

 

Target audience

Technology managers, R&D managers, in-house patent attorneys, patent liaison officers, patent administrators, IP department managers, technology company executives and venture capitalists.
