Traditional-Style Card Games Night (West)

We play card games! Everyone knows about card games: decks are easy to find, games are accessible, fun, and competitive. Yet, people often don't even realize the true wealth of interesting games out there. Even serious gamers tend to neglect their card game playing, thinking them more a diversion from other game styles. Well, not in the PDX Card Games meetup!

We want a place people can go specifically to enjoy card games with people that enjoy card games specifically. Anything with cards or tiles using suits and/or ranks is welcome, with the exception of games such as Poker (they already have plenty of dedicated groups). Tichu, Mu, Seven Seals, Bid Whist, Was Sticht, Four Dragons, Texas 42, Big Two, Euchre, Sheepshead/Doppelkopf, Hearts, Spades, Durak, Mah-Jong, Pinochle, etc.

We live near Powell's Books and Whole Foods, both on West Burnside. Both welcome game players in their coffee shops. W.F. has a spacious coffee shop upstairs and street parking is free after 7:00. Gamers could come at 6:00, pay for one hour, snack and socialize, then play until 10:00.

We made it out to the Whole Foods, and the upstairs coffee shop closes at 9pm, not 10 like the rest of the store.

Yeah, you are right. I knew that but did not factor it in. A different place would have to be found. Downtown is not easy for free easy spaces to just hang out. At least not inside. I suppose we could play in the parks, but there are always smokers and chaos-makers.

My husband and I haven't played board or card games in years, but we'd LOVE to get started again with either or both! Please let us know of any in the downtown, Pearl, or N.W. Portland area.

I'd also love if we could find spots to play cards in those areas. I think it can be challenging to find venues that will accommodate the group, possibly more so downtown and in NW.

The longest list of local board game groups I know about is here: http://www.boardgameg... . The McMenamins and Lloyd Center are as close to downtown as I've run a cards meetup.
