SUMMARY:East Side Game Night
DESCRIPTION:Portland Area Board Games and RPGs\n**Board Game Social** ever
y Wednesday on the east side of Portland!\n\n**What**? FREE\, hosted board
game social at **[Board Bard Games](https://www.theboardbard.com/)** (BBG
).\nThe East Side Game Night (ESGN) host team is here to play AND to help
you get playing! We love including friends and new acquaintances alike. Le
 t's Play!\n\n**Rules**? Yes!\nPlease read the About info (click/tap "read
more" below About) on the Portland Area Board Games and RPGs main page. Al
so note that Board Bard Games has Play Space Rules and Reqs posted near th
e door of the shop that must be followed.\n\n**What Games**? Players choos
e.\nCasual to medium-heavy complexity board/card/dice games hit tables wit
h a mix of strategy games and big group/lighter games.\n\nForecast: Share
what you want to play here in Meetup - or on the **[BBG Discord server](ht
tps://discord.gg/GbJFzyWDRC)**. Best place to plan future plays - and see
photos of past game play.\n\nLIBRARY: The BBG *in-store demo library* is a
vailable - *free to play!*\n\nGames you bring. You are awesome for bringin
g games you can teach and would like to play. There is typically one or mo
re players new to every game. See the games we have played in the past eve
nt photo albums. We post every week.\n\n**New Games**? Yes. Learning new g
ames is common here at ESGN.\nIn addition to playing our favorites (someth
ing we discover together)\, East Side Game Night is a space where many dif
ferent games are played every week. You can typically learn/play several d
ifferent games on the same night. "Game learning" (experiencing new games)
is part of the fun. Excellent brain exercise!\n\nPrep for play! It works
best to play games someone has prepared to teach. There are too many fun g
ames we already know how to play to be sitting watching someone read the r
ulebook for the first time.\n\n*Prototypes and Play Testing*: We ask that
game designers first 'join the community" by joining in the normal flow of
game play before setting up camp and working to get a new design tested.
The ESGN host team includes people that enjoy designing games as well as p
eople that work in board game publishing. But\, the normal at ESGN is play
 ing already published games.\n\n**RSVP**? Yes\, please!\nYour RSVP helps o
thers know that plenty of people will be there and fun games will get play
ed! Post on the Event page if you have any questions. Let people know whic
h games you’re bringing or want to play. RSVP not required - join us if
your plans change last minute!\n\n**Food**? Outside food welcome.\nOptions
  are abundant: **[Food in Montavilla](https://www.google.com/maps/search/m
 ontavilla+food/@45.5113315\,-122.6245691\,16025m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1)**. BBG
has snacks and non-alcoholic drinks for sale in house and welcomes player
s to bring food in.\nAlcohol may be brought into BBG if it is in a sealed
container. To-go pints can be purchased next door at [Tinker Tavern](https
://www.tinkertavernpdx.com/).\n\n**When**? Arrive when you can.\n5:00pm is
the initial start\, but people arrive when they are able. We often play s
hort\, big group games you can join on the fly as people show up. Longer p
laying games typically start between 6 and 7pm. New games start up through
out the evening. Can arrive early? Let others know\, maybe they can too. T
he tables and games are there. LATE NIGHT: Most weeks a group moves to a n
earby bar to continue game play after 10pm. :)\n\n**Parking**? Mostly on-s
treet.\nFind what you can. Obey posted signage. 80th typically has availab
le on-street parking south of the Stark and Washington couplet. Plan to wa
lk a block or 3.\n\n**New**? Give ESGN a real chance!\nDropping by just on
e week is never a good measure of a weekly group - no matter what the acti
vity. Many of our regulars come and go depending on what is going on in li
fe.\n\nIf you are attracted to the activity\, plan to give the group a mon
th of visits to really see if it is for you. See you soon!

SUMMARY:Games for 50 and Older!
DESCRIPTION:Portland Area Board Games and RPGs\n**This weekly event series
is for people 50 and older to get together and play board and card games
in a relaxed\, social atmosphere.** The general focus is on light- to medi
um-weight modern board and card games\, but there are also a few participa
nts who enjoy heavier games. Older more-or-less modern games also come out
from time to time (but we won't be playing Monopoly or Sorry! -- sorry!
😲). Adult children under 50 are welcome to bring their 50+ parent(s) wi
th them!\n\nToday's modern board games are usually designed to keep all pl
ayers in the game until it ends\, and some offer more than one path to vic
tory. There are also a lot of fully or partially cooperative games now\, s
omething you probably did not experience in your childhood. Interested in
learning and playing modern board games? Come on down! This is a safe plac
e to stretch your mind and mingle.\n\nWe have three hosts now\, with Kevin
and Denise normally planning to come every week and Daley every other wee
 k. We will try to show only hosts actually planning to come on a given dat
e in the "Attendees" list once the date gets close. (This requires manual
intervention on our part as Meetup auto-RSVPs all hosts to all dates.) We
should be there at latest by the start time but often \\~10 minutes before
.\n\nNote that every other week the store hosts a video game event in the
big gaming room\, so those weeks we will usually be in the main store by t
he cafe instead. We usually bring signs so new people can find us more eas
ily\, but sometimes we forget. We also have several regulars now who bring
and teach games from their collections\, and the store has an extensive f
ree lending library we can also borrow from.\n\nIf you have games you want
to play\, please go ahead and bring them! Also\, don't hesitate to post q
uestions\, game preferences\, etc. in the discussion threads on the event
series and/or the individual events. A bunch of us check and respond to th
ose regularly.\n\n**Please RSVP if you can.** This helps us get an idea of
how many people to expect. In recent weeks we typically have about a doze
n people attending.\n\n**A brief message about ground rules:**\n\n* Try yo
ur best to be on time. Otherwise\, you may have to wait until a new - or a
nother - game is starting.\n* Please respect game components with clean ha
nds and gentle touch.\n* Discrimination of any kind and trash-talking will
not be tolerated.\n* Please also refrain from engaging in politics while
at the game table.\n* Errors will be made\, so please bear with these with
out hard feelings. It's only a game!\n* Win or lose\, "It's not the destin
 ation\, it's the journey" -- Ralph Waldo Emerson.\n\nWelcome "a-board"!
