Join us for an evening exploring digital storytelling for good.
Note: Although we usually meet the first Wednesday of every month, due to the holiday week in September, we'll be meeting on the second Wednesday. See you on September 10!
Nonprofits, activists and community groups have used storytelling to drive their work for many years. How does the digital landscape change — or not change — those strategies? What's the best way to curate digital stories from your communities, and how do you effectively spread those stories through digital means?
Learn how to find and tell a story effectively, how to speak to your audience in an engaging way, and how to choose the perfect character(s) to make your story memorable, sharable, and impactful.
This event will be a part of coordinated global meetups on digital storytelling through NetSquared (http://www.netsquared.org) (one of PDXTech4Good's primary sponsors), a project of TechSoup (http://www.techsoup.org/).
They have great resources on storytelling here! (http://www.techsoup.org/community/events-webinars/tools-for-digital-storytelling-2011-01-20)
Amina Moreau, Stillmotion: Devoted to purposeful storytelling, Amina digs deep and asks the tough questions. One that continues to guide her and the Stillmotion (http://www.stillmotion.ca/) team is the question WHY. After all, intentional choices and emotional connection are what lead an audience to action.
Telling meaningful stories starts with understanding the language you’re communicating in. Amina is a visual linguist, who dedicates herself to the pursuit of the deeper significance of the choices we make as storytellers.
Amina is the co-founder of Emmy Award-winning Stillmotion (http://www.stillmotion.ca/), a Portland-based film studio that has been entrusted in notable circles to tell some very influential stories. Passionate in the chase, relentless in their process, Stillmotion digs deep because of the difference they know a well told story can make.
