Bamford Moor, High Kneb and Stanage Edge from Hathersage

Yep, it is Mother's Day, so maybe this one won't be so popular but hopefully still attract a goodly number to this mecca of walking in the heart of the Peak District National Park.

There are always hills in the Peak District but this walk is steady rather than fierce and is a good introduction to the delights of this popular starting point beloved of walkers, mountain bikers and climbers. Those arriving early will probably congregate in the (upstairs) cafe at the Outside shop for a giant mug of tea and a bacon roll but the actual meet point for 10:15am departure is by the car park (please DO NOT park here) of the Little John Pub / Hotel on Station Road, Hathersage.

There is a well sign posted main P & D car park in Hathersage but also still some street parking around and about as long as your are prepared to do a little walking to and from the meet point.

Overall distance: 10 miles

Not sure to come, yet, but in case the train from Manchester arrives at 10.20. Is it too late?

I live in Sale; as I said, not sure to make it, yet. I had a hell of a week and with the clock going forward, don't know if I will have the energy left.....

I may well join you. Don't wait for me if I'm not there by 10.15 though. My "darling" children have not said anything about this Sunday. If they suddenly throw an unexpected Mother's day for me, I won't come. But I somehow think it unlikely.

Once again, I apologise as this walk conflicts with the Holmfirth group.

Hello - would like to join one of these walks, but the first train from Sheffield to Edale/Hathersage doesn't leave until after 11, unfortunately. If you're stopping off anywhere later, I could maybe join you....

Hi Vicky - I live in S8 too - possibly have a pal visiting that weekend, if you have room for two passengers. Thanks very much for the offer. Ruth

Do we have a dog policy for these open moorland walks? Some walks will be suitable for cannine participation, and some will not. Some of us take to the moors as a man & dog team, and some alone...

    February 23, 2014

    • Gordon C.

Hi Pete, normally our walks will be on public footpaths rather than open access land so dogs are always permitted in these circumstance as long as they can be kept under control and will be placed on a lead whenever the landowners signs or the walk leader require it. On some open access walks, dogs may not be permitted due to the landowners restrictions but we will make this clear in the writeup and confirm it in the joining instructions. Regards Gordon

Thanks for that reply Gordon, I was prompted to ask after reading a comment from the member who is a vet. I'm guessing that we will have a high proportion of dog owners, and that in time we will learn who may, or may not be amiable for canine attendance.
