There is also the Permaculture Credit Union out of Santa Fe- which is an entirely permaculture principles CU:

I was not able to view this video in its entirety, but on this topic, I figured I'd forward some potentially useful information.
For those of us that do not utilize banks, but instead do business with credit unions, here is a general low-down on how deposit insurance works for those:

http://www.thestreet.com/story/11246068/1/are-credit-unions-fdic-insured.html

Both the FDIC and NCUA are "backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government." This means that the only real difference between the two is the type of institution they insure, not the reliability of that insurance. See:

http://www.gobankingrates.com/banking/fdic-versus-ncua-insurance/

In general, I'd say that if someone with as much power as the federal government wants your money, they're going to get it, regardless of where it sits.

However, putting this into a Permaculture perspective, credit unions seek to serve the many rather than the few (encourages diversity, People Care, etc.), and may be a better choice than banks for ethical reasons, since we all have to manage the day-to-day somehow.

Looking at the bigger BIGGER picture through the eyes of Permaculture, we can see that money is only one form of capital. Permaculture recognizes the possibility of MANY forms of capital, and offers us solutions and opportunites.
As an individual, I choose to focus on how I can better utilize and promote those, as I find it personally more empowering than worrying about the borrowed Federal Reserve Notes I am forced to deal with.

A great article by Appleseed Permaculture outlines 8 different forms of capital here:

http://appleseedpermaculture.com/8-forms-of-capital/

These more resilient forms of capital are tools, like any capital, and I'd love to see more conversations as a group around how we can use them to our advantage and strengthen our communities and ourselves.
