Hiring Assistant Farm Manager at Blooming Glen Farm in Perkasie, notice received 9/16/13


The Assistant Farm Manager at Blooming Glen Farm will work closely with the farmer owners to ensure the daily functioning of the farm. BGF is a 35 acre vegetable farm managed to the organic standards, and marketed through a 300 member CSA, 3 farmers markets and wholesale. Start date Jan 1, 2014. Multiple year commitment wanted.
Primary Responsibilities: Maintain awareness of whole farm. Assist with prioritizing and implementing daily and weekly tasks. Manage crew; train and uphold BGF standards of quality and efficiency. Lead and motivate crew; provide solid instruction and constructive feedback. Manage field activities including transplanting and harvesting. Utilize field directives to delegate and for recordkeeping. Assist in winter months with projects, organization and crop planning.


Qualifications and Experience: 3 or more full season on an organic farm. Excellent understanding of organic farming principles and techniques. Team management experience. Experience using and operating farm equipment from hand tools to tractors and implements.


Skills: Self directed but also able to take direction. Physically fit. Written and oral communication skills. Excellent leadership skills with a variety of personality types. Dedicated, dependable, detail-oriented, well-organized, good-humored, flexible, and excellent at multi-tasking.


Schedule: Expectation of 50-60 hours a week over 5-6 working days. Seasonal fluctuation.
Compensation: Base first-year annual salary $30,000. Vacation and schedule to be discussed.
