Is There a Problem with Consciousness?

Details

April's study will be conducted by Bro. Anthony Sokol as he asks the question, "Is There a Problem with Consciousness?"

Synopsis:
Is there a problem with consciousness? In this MPS discussion we will explore the problem of consciousness often referred to as the "hard problem of consciousness." It explores the fundamental question of how subjective experience arises from physical matter. So how does the brain, a collection of neurons, generate our inner world of thoughts, feelings, and sensations? Let’s explore these questions together. How do you define consciousness? How does your understanding of the world, your own understanding of the world, relate to these concepts? Also, perhaps in Freemasonry, how is the state of being conscious or consciousness be symbolically and allegorically explained or interpreted?

Mission Statement:
The Masonic Philosophical Society embraces the concept of learning, not for school, but for life, and believes that all men, who seek it, deserve access to continued education. We further embrace the concept of a community environment where ideas can be shared and debated in an open forum. From the seven liberal arts to the arcane, we seek to gain and share the knowledge that is the legacy of mankind.
