  • Hi, Recently I decided to open a pet supply store and grooming shop in Northern liberties. During the time of renovations I had a problem with a group of the neighbors which really opened my eyes to how judgemental and ignorant people can be.I was preparing to have a fundraiser for PAWS and a "group leader"of my block approached me to tell me that noone will be attending the fundraiser if my "pitbull" would be there and noone feels safe with a pitbull living in there area. All of these neighbors claim to be animal lovers.. and all have dogs. If anyone could help me come up with any fun, ideas to generate money for a pitbull awareness group and community education towards the breed ..please let me know. thank you, I will host every meeting at the store and can have the fundraiser here as well.

As the owner of a 1 year old PB, I would love to see a dog walk event. It would allow PB owners (and other dog owners) to walk with and meet the breed to help dispel the myths.

It is difficult to be the owner of a large breed and always told that my family member cannot join me.

Hello I was the owner of a PB for 9 years who passed away from cancer in Feb. he was the most friendly and precious dog I ever had. I agree, its not the dog its the people with raise them. They are sweet kind loving animals. I would love to come volunteer if its is not on a work day. Please keep me informed. !!

Also, I am the community and volunteer lead at my job. We have tons of pet lovers so I could also encourage participation from my co-workers. New to the group and just seeing this post, but is a great idea. Where is your shop? Do you offer grooming services? :)

You are so right about people be judgmental about pitbulls. I did too until my son started raising them and I found out they are the most loving and special doggies. It's the owners that make a dog bad, they are not born that way, just like people.

Education is key on this topic and there is some great info out there that could be shared with the community! I'm also a certified yoga teacher & would be happy to teach yoga classes for donations.

If you're looking for ways to generate money for the cause, holding a vendor/craft show is always an easy one. You could even invite some other animal rescues to participate, and that would help spread the word.

I own a pit mix, and she is the most loveable dog you'd ever meet. I'd love to volunteer, and you also have the support of my Insurance Agency as well! I'm the office manager/marketing coordinator and part-time agent, but the owner actually has a farm, where she takes all sorts of rescued animals. She even has 4 horses; 2 former police horses, and 2 former race horses. We're obviously big on animals, lol. We'd both like to help with the pitbull awareness fundraiser

Hi Poochie's Place. I love pits! Its all about the owner - not the dog. Anyways, I would love to participate in fundraising for awareness. I already am doing work with PAWS and can provide a fundraiser for you too. I started a company focused on community development by promoting locally owned businesses and fundraising for schools and non profits. Our first project is called "Coupon Guides to Philly" - 2 books with over 300 coupons to 187 businesses in 10 Neighborhoods (including NoLibs). They sell for $10 each and the Non profit or cause keeps $5 of every book sold. We can sell them through your shop, or at events in which you participate. Shoot me a note with your contact information and we can talk,.
