• LiveCode Demonstration - publish FM Solutions as native app on any platform!

Hi everyone! This year we will skip the December get-together and instead celebrate the New Year in JANUARY with upgraded food, annual predictions, and possibly FileMaker Jeopardy! We also have a special guest, Kevin Miller, the CEP of LiveCode. He'll be discussing LCFM Native. From Kevin: "LCFM Native allows you to deploy your FM solutions as a native app on any platform, including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac and Linux. You can keep your data within FileMaker, and use our drag and drop tool to compile your solution as a fully native app on an Android device, or indeed any other. No additional coding required. This is the first and only tool in the FileMaker space that allows you to do this. Main Session Points: - Deploy a FileMaker solution as a native app on Android - Cross platform, includes Android, iOS, Mac, Windows and Linux - Drag and drop tool, no coding required About Kevin Miller: Kevin Miller is the CEO of LiveCode, overseeing a global team, and the development of the LiveCode programming language as well as LCFM Native. • Group Project: Building a solution for a non-profit together? AND Style Guides

Hello everyone! We have two parts to this meeting. For the first half hour, Colin Keefe will talk through some ways to implement the look and feel specified by Corporate Style Guides in Themes, using layouts designed to visually represent the Theme design. For the rest of the meeting, we will talk about working on a project as a group! We are cribbing a team development concept that FileMaker used for the 2016 DevCup Challenge: find a worthy non-profit, define a limited scope of work and collectively build software for them. Details are to be worked out but in this meeting we will be gauging interest. We will be meeting on a more frequent basis in 2019, in the ITS offices, and if we can work out the kinks in this idea, we would be using half of our user group time to check in on progress for this pro-bono project. Hope you can come and discuss!

Gombrowicz In Performance - "based-on" queries in a database of productions of four plays written by the Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz Richard Lowe will demonstrate progress to date on Gombrowicz in Performance, a database of productions of four plays written by the Polish writer Witold Gombrowicz, as well as productions of plays based on the author’s non-dramatic works. Bolt On FileMaker Reporting Tool Alan Deffenderfer - ABD Enterprises Alan will demonstrate a Native FileMaker reporting tool that can be used to run cross tab and native FM Charts. This tool simply bolts on to an existing FM solution and provides basic reporting. Using "Auto-Enter" Field Options (in ways that never automatically entered your mind) David Hollander - Combined Fields Consulting Seems so basic: just a click in the “Options for Field” dialog, and you’ve told FileMaker to populate a field with a default value in new records. But Auto-Enter is so much more than plain serial numbers and timestamps! David will demonstrate what Auto-Enter calculations can do for formatting, “cleaning”, and calculating data. You’ll see why in certain situations they’re better than plain lookups, calculation fields, or script triggers on fields. Good topic for beginners, and sure to be a lively discussion for all.

  • Philly FileMaker Holiday Meeting

    Apple Store

Please join us for our Year End Meeting! Food and FileMaker! Please note this is an afternoon meeting, not an evening one. Dynamic Icon Sets using Base64encode/decode - Colin Keefe and Mark Walsh (IT Solutions (http://www.itsolutions-inc.com/)) Colin will share a technique for dynamically swapping in icons stored in scripts as Base64 encoded data. Applications include sort ascend/descend buttons, menu bars and the like, and loading of global container content with new values on startup without having to pull a file down from the server to work locally. Mark will demonstrate an alternate technique for changing icon colors using conditional formatting and global fields. Extending Radio Button Capabilities - Mike Ahern (IT Solutions (http://www.itsolutions-inc.com/)) Mike will demonstrate techniques for implementing choice selections: • using portals and row selection • radio buttons spanning multiple fields with different value lists, where only one field can can contain a vile, based on the value list of that particular field

Better Data Auditing - Mark Walsh (IT Solutions (http://www.itsolutions-inc.com)) Mark will conduct a presentation on data auditing, which will go over several techniques that can help with data analysis and troubleshooting, as well as make some data more portable. Mod Logging: UltraLog() CF and ExecuteSql()Utilizing FileMaker's native ability to query the database schema with ExecuteSQL to create a contextless list of fields for auditing. Create/Modify State: GetGets() CF, GetFunctions() CF, and Evaluate()Utilizing recursion to aggregate a list of FileMaker's Get() functions to return a full system state for recording in Create/Modify fields (similar to a ModifyTimestamp or ModifyAccount field). Data Dictionary: GetDataDictionary(), PassParameter(), and ExecuteSQL()Utilizing FileMaker's native ability to query the database schema with ExecuteSql to delineate fields with plain data storage and return the record as a dictionary (list of name-value pairs).
