I spent the day today at Barcamp Philly. While at the conference, I spent some time with Mat Schaffer. Mat is the organizer for Philly.rb (the Philly Ruby group). We thought that it may be fun to get the Ruby and Python communities together for a joint meeting. Apparently, we were not the first people to think about this as Toby told me these meetings are colloquially referred to as "Red Snake" meetings (makes sense). The thought was that we would do the meeting in January on 1/11/11. The format would be 10 lightning talks. 5 from PhillyPUG members and 5 from Philly.rb members. We would alternate: python, ruby, python, ruby, ... The thought is that each talk would be very "code-oriented" as opposed to "framework- or tool-oriented". This would allow each of our respective groups to see how the other "spells stuff" in their language.
The reason for my email is to see if there is general interest among our group to make this happen. Please reply to the list with your thoughts/comments. We can also discuss this a bit on Tuesday. I'd like to get back to Mat with our decision on Wednesday.
