Philosophies of the Art of Living (discussion/reading group)

Details
This weekly meetup group seeks to explore philosophies and theories from all ages and cultures concerning the "art of living." This includes classics like Aristotle's virtue ethics and the Stoics, modern approaches like Nietzsche's self-creation or self-overcoming, as well as contemporary "self-growth" authors such as Tony Robbins, Robert Greene, Jay Shetty, or James Clear. We will consult these texts with regard to our guiding question of: How can we orient ourselves (more) successfully in today's world?
On June 13, 2024, we will discuss:
- Dale Carnegie, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" (originally 1936, but any edition is fine)
For additional background, 2 optional readings:
- “The Art of Living as an Art of Orientation,” by Werner Stegmaier, which you can find here https://www.orientation-philosophy.com/work/publications/essays-on-orientation-skills-in-everyday-and-professional-life/stegmaier-art-of-living/
- “Nietzsche’s Art of Living in the United States Today,” by Reinhard G. Mueller, which you can find here: https://www.orientation-philosophy.com/work/publications/essays-on-orientation-skills-in-everyday-and-professional-life/rmueller-nietzsches-art-of-living/
