Dear LaToya,

I am in a similar boat to you in some ways.  I also don't have a strong background in philosophy, just a big curiosity.  The meeting on Tuesday was the first that I attended and only the second for the group...it is just in the early stages of forming.  The people present discussed what we were hoping for from the group.  E-mail correspondence didn't come up, although the idea of blogging was raised.  I think both are great potential venues for discussion and I am open to both or either.

It would be great to have you join the group.  There were only a handful of us the other night, but we are hoping to attract more members, both regulars and those who want to stop in from time to time.  There were different ages represented (from about 22 to over 50), men and women, different national and religious backgrounds, etc.  It seems like everyone was hoping to discuss a little bit of abstract philosophy, then to use it in dissecting real-world issues.  I got the feeling that people were open to a wide variety of topics...if you wanted to open the discussion to racial issues, I think people would be quite willing.

Greg, the organizer, is preparing some info for the next meeting, which is supposed to be in June, possibly the last Monday of the month.  We may be changing our meeting place (it was pretty loud at Cosi), but it will still be in or close to Center City.  Feel free to email me back if you have any other questions...I'm not sure I can answer them, but I'd be happy to try!

Peace,

Candace
