Documentary - "Salvador Allende"
Join us for a showing of "Salvador Allende," a documentary focusing on the life and untimely death of the democratically-elected Chilean president. With a background in Marxism, anarchist theory, and political philosophy, Allende represented for Chileans a new era of self-determination free from the influence of multinational corporations and U.S. hegemonic power. On September 11th, 1973 - after only three years in office - he was violently ousted in a military coup led by general Augusto Pinochet (with the support of the CIA).
This documentary will provide us the opportunity to discuss political philosophy, ethics, global capitalism, and U.S. foreign policy.
