Distinguished Speaker Series - Rabbi Art Levine, Ph.D., J.D.

  • This location is shown only to members

Our Distinguished Speaker Series hosts an expert on an engaging Philosophy topic on the last Thursday of the month in the back room of Coco's Restaurant.

Our speakers will discuss their topic for between 30 and 45 minutes and then facilitate a discussion and answer questions. There will generally be online links to articles relevant to the speaker's topic to give you background and hopefully trigger questions that interest you.

Our November speaker is Rabbi Art Levine, Ph.D., J.D.

Welcome to Rabbi Dr. Art Levine's web/blog site!

Rabbi Levine will address the subject of Jewish Philosophy, apart from the Jewish Religion, with emphasis on the greatest Jewish philosopher of the medieval period, Moses ben Maimon [Maimonides].

Readings to prepare for his talk are:

As always, I enjoy being among a lively, intelligent, smart, witty, and fun group of like-minded people with a shared interest in philosophy. I was very disappointed; however, with Rabbi Art Levine's agenda. For example; he announced that he wasn't going to talk about Jewish Philosophy or the suggested reading. Instead he veered toward Jewish religion. He apparently didn't know the difference between politics and religion when it came to the Middle East. He also made it a point to bring up anti-semitism. What did that have to do with our discussion? And at the end he just got up and walked out without ever engaging with group afterwards. I, personally, was not impressed.

I love these meetings. The distance is long and the traffic is huge. I'm sorry for me that I can't be there.

Actually Tuesday evenings are better for me in general, so if possible I would like to suggest moving the series to Tuesday nights.
