Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa Claus Parade

  • Nov 25, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • Centennial Square (City Hall)

Hi Folks: The annual tree lighting event in Centennial Square, followed by the Christmas parade is coming up. The parade begins at Belleville St. By the Inner Harbour and proceeds up Government St. to Capital Iron, where there will be more treats and stuff (with thanks to Virginia for the correction!!) It's always busy, so it's best to get set up early. The tree lighting begins at 4, and the parade starts at 5:45.

Hi Folks: I'm not sure where the glitch came from as this meetup had a date and time, but anyway. I reset the date and it's now closed. In reviewing the comments I see Mike had the same idea! Must be the name... ;-)

Looking forward to seeing your images!

    Mike.

The solution would be to set a date for later this week even though it would be the 'wrong' date.
I assume that only an administrator can do this... I just checked -- as a member I can't do it myself.

Hi Mike; Looks like without a date the Meetup system doesn't know the event has occurred and so we cannot post our pretty pictures.

I was there but just with my iPhone camera. I can't find how to upload photos this time and wonder if it's because there is no date for the event.....

I was at the Centennial Square event, but did not meet anyone else from the group.

I can not believe how many good shots and I have only looked at the photographs from one camera. Can`t wait to share.

Well, I only found a couple of our group today, but if you were able to brave the cold and make it out, please remember to share your work on the Photos page! We had fun and trust you did as well!!

My chronic muscle pain came back with cold weather, so I am not sure if I will be there… but I will try… Enjoy!

Pretty sure the parade ends, not begins, at Capital Iron after making its way down Government from Belleville.

Hi there, this is my first time joining this event and I am wondering how people "set up"? Do you bring a chair, tripod etc?

Hi Cindy: There are two separate but related events. The tree lighting, etc. takes place at Centennial Square (City Hall), and there's usually ice carving, free treats, and other things in addition to the tree lighting itself. The parade basically starts by Capital Iron at the north end of Government St. and works south. Both are generally very busy, so a tripod probably wouldn't be great as it will likely be bumped a lot. A monopod would work if you have one. A chair for the parade definitely helps stake out a place, but you a) have to get it set up early, and b) be prepared to have kids sitting in front of you no matter what! It's all in good fun.

Thank you so much for the info! Yes, kids are a major part of the great energy at a parade. Sounds good.

Just a little FYI for everyone. The Oak Bay light up is the next day (Sunday) with a stage of live music, a parade and other celebratory goodies all along the avenue.

Awwww, I have to cancel this event. Something has come up that I just cannot get out of. I hope everyone takes lots of great photos so I can enjoy them at a future M&M gathering.

Oops! Thought I had signed up a while ago for this one. Just discovered that I hadn't. I will be attending and bringing hubby along this time :-)

I signed up for this one just in case I can attend: the meetup site will keep throwing e-mails at me to remind me.
