Great meeting tonight - serendipitously I was listening to the latest episode of the Mobile Couch podcast ( on my way home and they spent nearly an hour discussing a real world, recent application built to use iBeacons. The pertinent discussion starts at about 21:21. Definitely worth a listen if you want to hear some of the challenges they faced and how they got past them.

Excellent suggestion, Tom, I really enjoyed the podcast. They talked about a lot of good stuff.

Very disappointed i cant make it. Maybe someone can ask a question for me: Will ibeacons become obsolete when phones become capable of using GPS (or some new tech enabling loc accuracy) in a battery-efficient way?

The presence of beacons can allow the device to shutdown GPS chip functions and preserve some battery. I think Andy is right, beacons should provide more accurate and reliable location info indoors where useful GPS signals are not even available. I think beacons are the new tech.

Let me restate. We have a loc-aware app called MessageBomb. We'd like to use GPS because it's accurate, but we can't because it's a battery hog. If GPS somehow becomes more bat-efficient, or some other in-phone tech comes along, then we'll use it (and avoid drawbacks of ibeacons). Agreed, for sure ibeacons solve the indoor recep prob and are great for a lot of things, but I also see how they might be a bit of a crutch for latent phone tech... for certain apps. Moot point perhaps since they are what we have today and solve the problems. Best

Hi everyone, I have 3 apps for sale on The App Store currently and I am looking for someone interested in doing free lance work to upgrade the apps. I'm in Scottsdale.
Please email me if you might be interested. Thank you, Peter Rosas
