Join me for a hike through South Park. We'll be taking the white-blazed Bison Trail. Distance is about 7 miles, and will take about 2.5 to 3 hours. We'll have a short break near the bison enclosure for snacks, and hopefully pictures of the bison.
If you have not hiked before or are out of shape, I would strongly suggest that you not sign up for this one. It will not be fun for you.......just being honest. That said, we will wait for each other at the tops of hills. No hiker left behind!
I hike this one at about a 2.5 to 3 mph pace.
Where to meet:
Take Route 88 South to the entrance of South Park. Big 5-way intersection (McDonald's and Get-Go will be on your left). You need to be in the left hand lane (of three lanes) at this point. Cross intersection onto Corrigan Rd., the main entrance into South Park. Do not take Rt. 88 any further or South Park Rd.
Follow Corrigan Rd. just past the Ice Skating Rink, and you will see the parking lot there on the right.
DON'T SPEED on Corrigan Drive - it's 25 mph.
You may want to bring a camera - I have seen a flock of turkeys flying, deer, frogs, and of course the bison.
In case of rain or snow, I will still hike.
Dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times.
This event is also posted on Meetin.org and Meetup's Hiking and Burgh Adults sites.
Also, we will be leaving on time.
