Eco Fest Planning Session

Eco Fest is an annual event held every October at the Wilkins School Community Center in Regent Square. This year Eco Fest will be held on Saturday, October 5th 10am-2pm. The purpose of Eco Fest is to promote local green businesses as well as educate the public on green lifestyle practices. It's a very causal event, and draws very open-minded individuals who care about the environment. I think an ongoing discussion (supplemented with handouts) throughout the event would be helpful. If we can get just one person to consider going vegan (or cutting back on animal products), I would consider that a success. Like I said, this event attracts like-minded individuals, with many who are already concerned with humane treatment toward animals. They just need help making the connection! I am not looking for individuals who are experts on the matter, just those who are willing to 'talk' about the impact that factory farming (among other practices) has on the environment. This can be a regular outreach event for the Pittsburgh Vegan Meetup group. We can try it out this year and modify it to be even more successful in the coming years. Join us!

Great outreach and planning session! Thank you so much to Sara T. for proposing this great idea and leading the effort, and to all willing to be involved! :-)

My husband needs the car today, so I won't be able to make it. Please let me know if I can do anything for the event, Sara. One idea I had is that it might be cool to share some recipes, in addition to promoting veganism as good for the environment.

Yup I'll be there! I'm doing brunch at QS, too, so might just camp out there all day!

Hi! I am new to this group, but I'd really like to start attending some events. I am very passionate about the importance of plant-based diets on our health and the environment and would love to help out with Eco Fest which sounds like a really awesome event. I'm not an expert but have read many books, documentaries, familiar with T. Colin Campbel's work, etc. I also love vegan lunches at The Quiet Storm! See you guys then?

So depending on how long book club lasts, I might be able to come on Saturday for a little while. I also have all day Sunday off, if that works better for anyone.

Sunday works for me too. Any of the proposed times are all fine for me!

I really wish I could make this but I'll be out of town for a while longer. When will Eco Fest be? Is there a fb group for this?

This sounds great!! I would really love to volunteer at the Eco Fest event. However, I won't be in Pittsburgh this Sunday to attend the planning session =( Please keep me updated on things!! (Also, I did a lot of research and wrote a blog post about the environmental impact of eating animals if you'd like to use any of that info.. http://thecollegegreens.com/2013/02/05/beyond-the-health-benefits-part-1-the-environment/)

I can meet before or immediately after book club. Or I could probably make it Sunday before 2pm.
