Hope Haven Fundraiser Planning Meeting

I'm the event coordinator for the first Annual Hope Haven Fundraiser, but need assistance. Here's the points we'll be covering, both for those who can attend and those who can't.

* First, and foremost, we need to pick the location. The date/time will be settled later, coordinating with Karen. Hopefully, the place can hold[masked] people and be free or very inexpensive.

Other items:
* What items can people make, so we can sell?
* What activities can we do?
* How many volunteers do we need and how do we divide the work?

Time-permitting, other items:
* Talk about volunteer days
* Talk about monthly, simple events we can do to raise money.

Also, we've got a great need for artists, but that's for a future meetup. If you're an artist and interested in helping, send me a meetup message.

The people at Quiet Storm have asked for an exact count, so please don't just say you'll go and not show up. Since they announced their closing, they've been off-the-hook crazy busy.

Here's a picture of one the fellows you'll be helping. He's a truly gentle, wonderful and sweet bird.

    All,
    Here's the recap:

    * The group consensus (10-1) was that it's better to try and do several small events first, then try and do a big event in the late winter or spring. We'll try and do two events a month, even if it's only a small event.

    * There were a few offers of people making nick-nacks to sell, which we can do at the the first few, small events.

    * Suggested money-raisers were:
-- Selling bricks with people's names, for a set donation amount
-- Having a "Take a holiday picture with an animal" day
-- Sell ads in the newsletter
-- Take out some local ads, like in the Co-Op Newsletter

We've got a few things penciled in for October, which will be posted online shortly. We'll also have another planning meeting next month.

Thank you all for your support. If everyone in the group gave $10, that truly make a big difference!

All sound slike great ideas! Please do keep us posted on what's being planned for the future.

I wasn't going to be able to make it, but I had a change of plans, BUT I see that RSVPs are closed, AND I'm worried that QS will have trouble making room for us all, so I won't crash the party.

I currently have a migraine that had me tossing and turning all night, but if this calms down, I will be there, and may get a pot of the GLE tea. :-)

I had a really bad migraine yesterday too! The air pressure must have been off or something... I hope you are feeling better!!

Hello, I wasn't able to RSVP in time and am wondering if there is some way I can still attend. Thanks.

I had to cancel so my space is open.

I'm interested in helping with this, but I may not be able to stay through to 2:30.
I'd like to help in getting some local entertainers involved. I know several musicians - many of them are vegetarians so they'd already be on board in spirit

Whatever you can do is appreciated!

      September 21, 2013

    • Shelagh

And now I have to cancel.
I'm really sorry. Please keep me in the loop for the next planning meeting!

I don't know where Hope Haven is located but if it is within half an hour of Pgh. maybe we could have the event there.Just a thought.

Are they too far away? Or is space an issue? on the Hope Haven website they say they offer tours if given notice.

it is in North Hills I believe

I have not been able to attend many meetups, but I can be there for this one and I'm really excited that we can help this starting sanctuary here in Pittsburgh.

This might have to wait till spring unless you can get organized quickly... What about a garage sale with proceeds going to Hope Haven. Advertise on Craigslist.I'm sure members have new or slightly used things that they would be happy to purge from their closet/basement/garage.Hope Haven benefits and members get rid of clutter.

I don't see who to send a private message to, sorry.
I have been wanting to do some sort of fundraiser for them and haven't so count me in on helping with yours! If the date and time of the fundraiser work out, I'd love to donate a bellydance show at the fundraiser event. It's family-friendly. I can't attend this meeting, unfortunately, but would like to help anyway.

    September 20, 2013

    • Amethyst

if you do want a bellydance show, there is a group of us, not just me solo, so let me know if you'd like a group show. :)

      September 20, 2013

    • Steve

Amethyst, I'll add you to the event, donor list. Thank you for your generous offer!

      September 21, 2013

  • Emilia

I will not be able to attend, but please do keep me in the loop!

    September 19, 2013

    • Steve

I'll post a summary of what was decided after we meet, for all to see.

I won't be attending but whatever the venue...what about having a Chinese/silent auction? Members could make up baskets or you could ask stores to donate items to be auctioned ( could be gift certificate, gift items, recipe books, etc).

    1 · September 19, 2013

    • Amethyst

Yeah, count me in on donating a prize.

I was planning on attending the DC Vegfest but my finances are a little tight this month. Additionally, I think helping out a local farm sanctuary is more important than a Vegfest. Maybe we could ask vegan/vegetarian restaurants if they would set up food booths to sell their food and promote their establishments at the same time? We could charge a fee for these vendors to be there.

    September 19, 2013

  • Christin

I'm sorry I won't be able to attend. I'll have limited availability to help out this fall/winter, but I'll try to stay in the loop to at least attend and help on the day-of.

    September 19, 2013

  • Joanne M.

Unfortunately, I will be volunteering for DC VegFest on September 28th. So I will not be in town.

    September 19, 2013

  • Rebecca

I am very interested in helping with fundraising for Hope Haven.
I will be out of town during this event, but I'd like to be in the loop.
