I just got a set of mono lights a few weeks ago. This is my first attempt at using them...The space was kind of confined so they were pretty close to the subject. I think the image came out ok though. What do you guys think...

Nice image Jayson. The face certainly has a lot of character. I have a couple of questions. What lens are you using? It looks like a wide angle or a "normal" lens. What is the placement of your lights. The lighting looks flat, no direction. Also. I'm not sure I would have put his hand in the photo. Maybe it's the lens you're using but it looks like it is bigger than his head. His face should be the subject but I keep looking at his hand.. There is too much empty space above his head. Crop it out. This would be a perfect image for B&W.

Thanks John, I'll post up a cropped version in a sec. I was using a 50mm 1.8...I think I was at f5 lol so yeah it was a normal : ) I was really just experimenting with the light haha...first time using mono lights :) I had a light with a small umbrella in front and above the subject. Another light with a small softbox on his left and a reflector on his right. All the lights were fairly close only 3-4 feet away.

I like it. I agree with John on his points. I like the hand in the image but it's too big. A longer lens would help that and make it stand out less.
