6:30 pm-6:45 pm: Kafka Quickly, by Konrad Jakubiec
6:45 pm-7:00 pm: Break and Q&A
7:00 pm-7:45 pm: Stream processing in action-building risk management platform with Kafka Streams by Daniel Jagielski
7:45 pm-8:00 pm: Additional Q&A
Title of Talk:
Kafka is a well-known streaming platform. It is able to handle various flavours of event-driven architecture like notifications, event-carried state transfer or even event sourcing. To achieve any of those, it is worthing understanding basics of Kafka. The purpose of this presentation is to discover building blocks of Kafka. In the first place, the focus will be put the general design of Kafka. Next part elaborates on additional and really helpful extensions from the Confluent platform like Kafka Connect or Schema Registry. The last part concludes Kafka ecosystem with some real case usage. Hopefully, this pitch will establish a ground knowledge about Kafka and allow to implement a real scenario.
Open-minded Software Engineer specializing in designing and building well crafted distributed systems. A charismatic leader of the cross-functional team at VirtusLab. Highly interested in quality improvement through an evolutionary approach to development lifecycle. Passionate about Domain-driven Design, Reactive Microservices and Event-driven architecture. Background includes extensive experience of backend development with Java, Kotlin, Vert.x and RxJava, as well as extensive adoption of infrastructure as a code principle on AWS. Mostly focused on Domain Events distillation and Event-sourcing implementations with experience backed by the Employee Experience Expertise project. Spending free time on self-growth, discovering new music and playing on drums.
Title of Talk:
Stream processing in action-building risk management platform with Kafka Streams
Unbounded data streams are all around us and smart use of them may unlock variety of new opportunities for businesses to grow. The need for systems to react in real time to thousands of events per second is crucial these days, and stream processing is addressing this requirement thoroughly. During this talk we will discover why and how to apply stream processing, in order to build a pipeline to accomplish different goals and meet non-functional requirements. As an example, we are going to use risk management platform to discuss the challenges and issues that can be encountered during design and implementation phases. All discussed examples will be based on Kafka Streams, emphasizing features that can be used when solving particular problems, with some deep dive explanation on how they work internally.
Software Engineer and Manager at Virtuslab, currently leading a team building security gateway and identity management platform. Nowadays, mainly involved in Stream Processing and Event-Driven reactive architectures using JVM based languages (Java, Kotlin), Kafka, Kafka Streams, RxJava and Kubernetes. Believes that undertaking complex challenges of different kind is the best motivation for self-development and growth. Spends free time on researching new ideas, trends and approaches in different areas of IT – especially IOT and home automation, playing plenty of sports and FIFA on a gaming console.
