El Gaucho Argentine Market for Empanadas + Glacier Ice Cream for cool treats

El Gaucho Meat Market 2715 Manhattan Beach Blvd Redondo Beach, CA 90278 (310)[masked] Tiny meat market, “El Gaucho” features Argentine delicacies that you may have never tried before. Matambre (the hunger-killer!)is a rolled stuffed flank steak. You’l find a small variety of veggies like red and green peppers, maybe some spinach and hard boiled eggs in the middle. The one served here is tender and flavorful and worthy of a sampling. It is eaten with chimichuri sauce. Tarte Pasqualina is a large veggie pie loaded with spinach or swiss chard and cheese and sometimes had boiled eggs. It's a good example of the Italian influence over Argentine foods. We will sample a variety of empanadas, and their deli sandwiches and some Argentine sodas. If you cook or are into backyard BBQ, I suggest you bring along a cooler and some ice. Then you can purchase some of their well- known marinated meats and chicken for the grill. Or how about Argentine sausage for breakfast? The cost will be in the $12 range, if you decide to share a sampling of their house specialties. If you're on a budget, you can just order one of their house sandwiches that run about $7. Empanadas are $1.52 each. You can buy a dozen for $14.99. Perfect to share with your friends and/or family. Afterwards we will buzz on over to nearby Glacier Ice Cream where we can have a taste of their house made gelatos and ice creams. I can vouch for the staciatella - it's to die for! All of them are made right there in the store. A scoop of ice cream/gelato etc runs $3.50

We had so much food. It was a nice way to spend a Saturday and learn about Argentinian cuisine and culture. Glacier ice cream was a nice way to finish a meal.

Such a wonderful feast. The stories behind the food were enlightening. Wonderful meats, cheeses, coffee, desserts. I had a blast. Brought some marinated skirt steak which I'm dying to try. Awesome owners!!

It was a wonderful treat to not only be able to try all different foods but to hear about the customs of eating there and the culture they came from. The hostess didn't even want to charge us but we were all so pleased at the variety and amount of food we insisted on tipping her at about $10 a person (she even packaged the leftovers and gave us a bottle of the sauce that retails at almost $3!!)

Sassille, the Assistant Organizer, did a great job. The food was excellent, a feast. El Gaucho provided a wonderful hostess,Nancy, who explained the different foods, culture and customs of Argentina. The group was friendly and pleasant. The setting is plain but the food was terrific.
