Old Fort MacArthur Days: A Living History Timeline From Rome to Modern Era

  • This location is shown only to members

Please Note: Read the directions carefully below BEFORE you RSVP 'Yes' for this event.

Please Make Note of Pleasure Palate Attendance Policies and our 3 Strikes Rule by clicking here before RSVP-ing to this Event. Cancelling your RSVP within 24 hours or not showing up at the event without contacting the Organizer ahead of time will result in a strike. 3 Strikes and You're Out!

1) I am hosting this event for both Gay Foodies and Pleasure Palate.

2) I am arranging for a carpool to leave from West LA and head down to San Pedro at 8:30 AM. The fair does not open its doors until 10 AM, but I want to arrive in the area a little early to have a donut breakfast, find parking, line up and get inside.

3) The cost to enter the fair is $10 per person.

4) Make sure to bring your camera! The pictures in this event write-up don't do this event justice. It will be a visual spectacle, especially if you love to see men (and women) in uniform!

Last year I went alone to Old Fort MacArthur Days. I knew it was a military themed living history event, but I had no idea that it would have so many different living history groups participating. It was bewildering seeing groups representing Roman Legions, Renaissance, Pirates, WW I and WW II, Vietnam War, Korean War to more modern warfare. I felt like I was time traveling each time I walked from one tent section to the next. I later found out this is the LARGEST living history event in Southern California, and possibly the entire state. This year, there will even be more living history groups participating. So come join me in San Pedro for Old Fort MacArthur Days!

Schedule of events:

From their website:

The History

Officially 2013 will mark the 27th Anniversary of the Old Fort MacArthur Days fundraiser event.   The annual fundraiser grew from an artillery show to one of the premier, and continuous, event in the Los Angeles County.

At various times, the show is one of the longest running Living History event in all of Southern California.  In 1999 the event had 15 groups.  The 2010 event had over 80 groups, with over
700 participants, representing almost every part of history.

We hope that this upcoming event will be bigger than the last one. The 2013 OFMD Living History Event will also be Commemorating the 115th Anniversary of the Spanish-American War and the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 1863) of the American Civil War.

    Hi Robert,
Glad we finally met. Your meetups are very creative! They include an impressive array of interesting experiences. For example, the Time Travel store, or the geometry/math exhibit in Chinatown, etc.. The MeerKats seemed like fun too. I go when I can. Thanks to Keong who gave advice to cancel as soon as I find out I can't attend. Sometimes, due to events that are out of my control. Afraid I was going to be kicked out of PP. Glad I'm not.
Nah, my 3 parents, teens, child and babies were not ready to leave when you guys left.
We hung out with: Juanito the Horse, Pi-Rat, Civil War dog, Pirate goats and some parrots. We finally went to lunch.
    Thanks, Daisy

I'll call the African American Museum to find more information. There was an African American Regiment then.
May bring some students with me.

Sounds like a interesting Non-eating adventure!
I may go to this. But Robert, I won't RSVP "yes" so you won't get mad if I can't make it. But I will call and introduce myself if I go.
I know of a Black Cavalry group that may be there. I want to see them. And horses, lots of them I hope.

    Thanks, Daisy
