East SGV Chinese Food Crawl Family Style: Newport Tan to Wala Wala

  • Apr 13, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Please Note: Read all the directions carefully below BEFORE you RSVP 'Yes' for this event.

1) I am hosting this event for both Gay Foodies and Pleasure Palate.

2) This is a food crawl, meaning we will visit 4 separate restaurants in a row. Its probably best to carpool if you can.

3) We will be ordering family style - meaning we will order as a group and divide the bill evenly. If you have any dietary restrictions or not an adventurous eater, do not sign up for this event.

4) At the first restaurant I will collect $60 up front from each person. I will pay for each meal at all 4 stops. At the 4th and final stop, I will tally up the total costs. If there is change, I will give it back to you. If we are short, then i will ask for more ca$h from you to cover the cost of all 4 restaurants we visited.

5) While this is a food crawl, I am not interested in gut busting gluttony. So the rule is we will only order the Top 2 dishes in each restaurant.

In honor of Jeff Tjin visiting town, we will visit several Chinese restaurants in a row, since the ones he has in Holland are pitiful.

Our 1st stop is the crowd pleaser and popularity contest winner Newport Tan Cang. We will order the house lobster and beef loc lac.

Second Stop we will go to Shanghailander Palace and order the Westlake style steamed live fish and the braised pork in brown sauce.

1695 South Azusa Ave
Hacienda Heights, CA 91745

Third Stop we will go to Earthen to order their House chicken and spicy/garlic shrimp dishes.

1639 S Azusa Ave
Hacienda Heights, CA 91745

Fourth and Final Stop is Wala Wala. Since this is our final stop and they specialize in Taiwanese pub food, we will most likely order more than 2 dishes.

2130 S Hacienda Blvd

Hacienda Heights, CA 91745

Okay we will try out Newport's location in Rowland Heights. This way the driving distance is closer and we might even be able to add in a Round 5 for dessert afterward.

Snow ice dessert is fine but absolutely no stinky tofu dishes allowed on my crawls. ;-)

I don't think they have anything stinky......their chicken krapron, fried fish with basil, and Kung pao chicken the best in town! Definitely NOT stinky!!!!!!!!!..yum

I've never eaten there before but there is a branch of Newport Tan Can in Rowland Heights?

Portion sizes tend to be on the smaller side at Shanghailander. 1 order is best for 6-7. Robert, I'll email you a copy of their menu later.
