Cooking Demos by Rocco DiSpirito & Ludo Lefebvre @ 11th Annual WeHo Book Fair

  • PLEASE NOTE: This event is being cross-posted with Gay Foodies. Although the book fair runs from 10:00am to 6:00pm, I will only be attending the 2 cooking demonstrations (and perhaps book signings): Rocco DiSpirito's and Ludo Lefebvre's. We will meet at the Culinary Pavilion at 1:00pm. Please sign up even if you decide to go earlier than 1:00pm, and of course, you are more than welcome to stay beyond 4:00pm. You may also want to arrive as early as you can so that you can give yourself ample time to find parking and be able to get to the Culinary Pavilion to grab a seat (refer to the program book, Pgs. 9-10 for a map of the grounds: http://www.westhollywoodbookfair.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/West-Hollywood-Book-Fair-2012.pdf). Also, remember, this is Carmageddon 2 weekend, so if you are coming from the San Fernando Valley or the Westside, be sure to give yourself extra time in case of traffic.

From the 11th Annual West Hollywood Book Fair's program:

"We’re very proud to celebrate the 11th Annual West Hollywood Book Fair with all of the wonderful authors, performers, exhibitors, bookstores, volunteers, and YOU, the attendees, who have come together to make this day a successful joining of books, ideas, laughter, and fun. This year, we’re excited to show off a number of new additions, including the Culinary Pavilion, featuring chef demos and food talk; the Park Stage, spotlighting discussions and panels from across the book spectrum; and to spread out on the newly renovated West Hollywood Park Lawn. While Book Fair visitors are welcome to bring books from home for signing, we encourage everyone to support our local independent booksellers on-site!

This inaugural year of the Culinary Pavilion is highlighted by a great lineup of cooking demonstrations. Kicking things off with a breakfast recipe from his book Twist It Up! is 12-year-old food phenom, Jack Witherspoon, chef and cancer survivor showing his stuff and chatting with Los Angeles Times’ Mary MacVean. Roberto Martin—bestselling author of Vegan Cooking for Carnivores and former personal chef of Ellen DeGeneres—and Ludo Lefebvre—author of the brand new cookbook LudoBites, award-winning chef and “impresario of the pop-up restaurant”—can’t wait to show you their culinary secrets. James Beard, award-winning chef and television star, Rocco Dispirito, comes to the left coast to show us what’s cooking in his just released Now Eat This! Italian. And rounding out the food-focused day are talks by Amy Finley, Paul McCullough, Food Matters’ James Colcuhoun and Laurentine Ten Bosch—as well as wine guru, Caitlin Stansbury, heralded as “Best Sommelier” by Los Angeles Magazine."

1:30PM - 2:15PM COOKING DEMONSTRATION WITH ROCCO DISPIRITO:

Now Eat This! Italian: Favorite Dishes from the Real Mamas of Italy–All Under 350 Calories

Rocco DiSpirito entered the Culinary Institute of America at the age of sixteen, and at eighteen began working with legendary chefs worldwide. The James Beard award-winning chef opened the 3-star Union Pacific in New York City where he established his culinary credentials. He was named Food & Wine’sBest New Chef and was the first chef to grace the cover of Gourmet as America’s Most Exciting Young Chef. DiSpirito starred in Bravo’s hit reality series Rocco’s Dinner Party, as well as NBC’s The Restaurant and A&E’s Rocco Gets Real. He has appeard on Oprah, Ellen, Chelsea Lately, and The Tonight Show, among others.

2:245PM - 3:30PM COOKING DEMONSTRATION WITH LUDO LEFEBVRE:

    LudoBites

After training in France for 13 years at Restaurant L’Esperance with Marc Meneau, then Restaurant Pierre Gagnaire, then Arpege with Alain Passard, and Le Grande Vefour with Guy Martin, Lefebvre moved to Los Angeles to work at L’Orangerie. He was promoted to head chef at the age of 25 and made L’Orangerie one of the top-rated restaurants in California, receiving the Mobil Five Star Award. Lefebvre then moved on to Bastide where he also received the prestigious Mobil Five Star Award. Lefebvre was a nominee for the James Beard Foundation “Rising Chef Award” in 2001 and released his first cookbook, CRAVE, a Feast of the Five Senses in 2005. Always the rebel, Lefebvre has created a guerilla style “pop-up” restaurant event called LudoBites that currently takes place at different locations around Los Angeles. LudoBites has been named to the Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic, Jonathan Gold’s 99 Most Essential Restaurants List for Los Angeles; earning a place in the Top Ten Dishes of 2007, 2009, and 2010 and identified as a dining experience that “may fundamentally change the way we look at restaurants.” He lives in Los Angeles, California.
