For those of you who have been in the group for awhile, you'll know that myself and quite a few of my Assistant Organizers are a fan of Juan's Restaurante, which is why we've hosted 3 to 4 separate there alone. I even did a blog post about my first experience there, which you can read here.

It turns out that Chef Juan Mondragon is adding some new items to his menu, which are inspired by his Grandmother's recipes ~ recipes that come from Guerrero, a state in Mexico. Because Chef Juan knows how much we love his food, he's doing a special menu just for us which includes some of those new dishes. You can see those dishes at the menu below.

Appetizer

Your Choice of Tacos de Chanfaina (Organs and blood guisado served in a handmade tortilla of corn and cactus paddle)

OR

Tacos de Queso en Salsa* (Special cheese from Guerrero served in a handmade tortilla) *The Tacos de Queso en Salsa is subject to change at Chef's discretion

Salad

Ensalda de Verdolagas (Purslane Salad, Guerrero Style)

Entrees

Mole Verde Nejos (Nejos are tamales made just with corn and lime)

Mole Rojo Nejos (Nejos are tamales made just with corn and lime)

Birria de Iguana**
(Iguana made in a barbaco/birria style in a stew)

**With iguana being such an exotic meat, they have to special order it in advance. If I don't get a minimum number of people by 11/11, there won't be time to get the iguana and in that case, the Birria de Iguana will be replaced by the Conejo (Rabbit) Mixiote dish below.

OR

Conejo Mixiote
(Prepared "barbacoa" style. Meat is first marinated, wrapped in a maguey leaf and then cooked)

Dessert

Rellenitos de Platano Macho (plantain fritters filled with black bean paste, topped with jocoque, a Mexican sour buttermilk, and guava preserve)

Aguas Frescas

Agua de Coco (CoconutAde)
Agua de Cacao (CacaoAde)

This will definitely be a chance to try dishes from a part of Mexico that many of us may not have tried before plus it's hard to go wrong with a grandma's recipes, so I hope you'll join me.
