What we're about

Please read before querying >>> This group is for genre/commercial fiction writers working on adult-themed novels. Categories encouraged are Mystery, Crime, Thrillers, Techno-thrillers, Southern Gothic, Suspense, Romance, Romantic Suspense, Sci-fi, Horror, Fantasy-Horror, etc.

Do you get the same tired and useless responses when friends and family read your work? “I liked it. It was good.” You are not alone.

Are you looking for a group of readers that will understand what you are crafting, will be able to tell you what is working and what is not, and will be able to guide you toward becoming a better writer overall? Are you a new novelist? A writer crossing over into a new genre? Are you a seasoned novelist looking for some peer interaction? Are you willing to share the benefits of your working experience with others?

To be considered, submit five pages of your work. If you're considering membership, please know your fiction genre, be passionate, and unapologetic. Regular monthly attendance is greatly appreciated. A commitment to the group will require you to remember each other’s plot lines, characters, and revisions. We strive to be a safe haven from the writing jungle; a place in which to nurture experimentation and chance taking. When critiquing or receiving critique please adhere to a general policy of: Always honest, but never mean.

A murder so heinous, we gasp without pretense…A character so sexually reckless, it raises our ire (and rattles our cages)…A sci-fi world so completely evoked, it makes our head spin…A jihadist so crazy, we fear for the end of the world. These are all plot lines from writers in this group. Some of these writers are published. Some are not. Everyone, no matter what level they are at, has a place here and is welcome.

Don't tell us that old lady screamed. Bring her on and let her scream. ~ Samuel Clemens

We meet every 3rd or 4th Thursday of every month, 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Non-summer: library meeting rooms, etc. Summer: outside. We usually meet somewhere in NW quadrant of TC with I-694, I-394, I-494 and I-94 serving as rough boundaries (subject to change).

Monthly submissions --> Format: Workshopping. Length: 8-12 pages (double-space, 12 pt font). Submissions get posted online to a secure location prior to the meetup. Attendees are expected to read the submissions, critique, and be prepared to discuss. Group attendance is currently capped at ten so that everyone is equally served.

This is a venue for writers and not for sales types to pitch their wares.
